Yes that was also my thought. Most probably your IC setup causes a big pressure drop. -
Try measuring the pressure drop through your intake system.
Measure pressure simultaneously at the turbo outlet (WGFV bung for example) and in the inlet manifold.
It could be possible that the slow spoolup you see is due to those twin intercoolers not flowing very well.Leave a comment:

Can you please comment again on your cam setup, exhaust manifold and inlet tract?Leave a comment:

Yes, it's been a lot of money, time and effort for -20bhp
However, it's far from disaterous. The Bhp is what I was expecting, the spoolup has not changed as much as I thought. On the road the difference is a more pronounced than the graph though. I think it's more driveable and exploitable.
It surprises me that the spoolup is not quite a lot better as the exhaust and turbine wheels are quite a lot smaller and lighter. If you look at it another way it's quite impressive that it nearly matches a biggeer Turbo for output.
I could fit a 0.82 hotside for more top end, but that would defeat the object.
Perhaps on what is now an older design of engine there is not that much I could do to improve the bottom end of the graph.
I have been spoilt by my focus RS which starts at 2k and doesnt let off til 7000rpm. Thats a 2.5L with higher comp ratio and turbo specific to the car.
Suggestions are welcome anyway, but I have to say although I was a little dissapointed I am very happy with the car, I think I have gained some driveability.Leave a comment:

Angus,
Pleased you got it up and running
Have to say though, given the grief you have been through let alone the cost, i would have wanted more of a difference..
Still you have to test these things...

GTX2867R Results
Well, here are the results inc old vs new:

A little less top end power as expected, but the plot looks very similar save for slightly more power and torque below 3500 ish.
On the road I'm actually quite pleased although I've only driven it back. The power seems a bit smoother and more progressive, more responsive too, but admittedly, not massively so. Still a worthwhile improvement.
It seems my limitations for spool is not the turbo.....
Not much more I can think of for now apart from head porting which is would be a lot of work!
I think I will have to leave it alone for a while now, pretty happy really
Also I have noticed that it sounds a little different, maybe a little more turbo whistle at low to mid revs.
The only small thing I might change is the air filter, currently it has one like this; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GREEN-89mm...item43a8f950ac
It does have a heatshield around it. Not sure if it's big enough really! Not much more to chose from. The HKS is quite a bit bigger in diameter, not even sure how well it would fit.
I am going to try and get some performance box data when I get round to it

I wish you good luck and waiting for the results!!!!
At what price did you sell the old turbo?Leave a comment:

Bit the bullet and ordered a new one. Wanted it to be right!
Sold the damaged one. could have waited for the echnage programme but have seemingly got a comparable figure by selling it, esp when taking into account shipping costs etc.
The fact that I sold my old Turbo helped move things along money wise but it's been tight.
Lets hope the whole saga proves worthwhile!Leave a comment:

Well, it lives again!
I ran it up yesterday, no leaks or issues as of yet. Getting it mapped early next week.
What'll it do mister...
Please ignore the hose routing, not finalised yet.

Nah, that'll still have a bigger, heavier turbine wheel and so may not give the results I want, plus it's hassle. Not a bad idea though.why dont you use the GT3071R that you have for sale, to send to a turbo company and they could adapt the rear section of the 3071R and CHRA to the new compressor wheel of the GTX. That way you could have a hybrid. One that the larger turbine wheel of the 3071 would allow a bit more power as the EGTs going high wouldnt be that big issue and on the other hand the new GTX wheel would give the benefits of the billet design.
That way, at no extra cost you would have a possibly better outcome at only cost the fitment and balancing which shouldnt be more than 100GBP!Leave a comment:

That line is just dangleing freely for the test fit, not fitted. Its the turbo oil feed.Leave a comment:

I would keep that oil/water line out of reach from the EM if you can. can you put a heat shield in between?Leave a comment:
