OEM+ Coupe 16v (1.8t on the way)

It looks like I'm going down the same route as you, and it's a lot to do with this thread. I've got an engine arriving this weekend! The only difference is I'll be moving from an ABK 8v rather than your 16v.
A few questions though:
Which engine mounts did you use? You did mention it, but I wasn't 100% clear.
What did you do in the end about the ECU immobiliser?
Did you change your fuel pump?
What intercooler did you go for?
I've a brother who is an electrical engineer, so hopefully won't have to face the wiring nightmare that you did!Comment

Hi there, sounds like a plan
You may be lucky, your engine mounts might be correct. The nearside one I am 99% sure will be spot on. I used the one from my 16v engine on this side.
The offside one that you need needs to have a "J" at the end of the part No. I think some of the 8v engines came with this so you might be lucky, if not, I got mine off a 1.8 20v non turbo 80 cabriolet, or there is always the stealers.
The ECU - I got hold of one of a kind gent on here that had already had the immo removed. Im sure you will be able to get this done at a tuners.
Fuel Pump - I have not changed this yet, mine does sound a little noisy so I may do this when I put the T28 turbo on. If I do it will be for a new standard one.
Intercooler - This was an ebay special, like this one, same size too - LINK
If your brother is good at soldering then your onto a winner, feel free to use the wirring spreadsheets paul and I came up with further back. Get a thread started and feel free to ask any more questions

Cheers man, you can be sure I'll have plenty of questions! I've been looking at the spreadsheets posted in this thread and the wiring schematics for the ABK and AEB from ElsaWin, and my brother and mechanic friend are a lot more confident than I am!
I have a feeling I'll strike it lucky on the engine mounts as well, from my research.
I figured the IC was an eBay special, but didn't want to be as rude as to suggest it
Thanks again.

No worries, i'll try help where i can
At every step of the way I was thinking to myself I have bitten off more than I can chew, but once you get stuck in it kinda falls together lol.
With regards to the intercooler, i asked the question on here and most of the responses were along the lines of unless you need absolute performance then the ebay ones do a resonable job. I am a student so the car has been put together with a no expense spared buget (as long as I have gone down every possible rout of begging steeling and borrowing first
)

Hi mate, another one from me. I've got my engine in the garage and have signed off on a place at the end of February so that I can carry out the conversion in relative luxury
You say you used the AMK engined S3 gearbox, is this what you ended up with? Did it just bolt in to the same mounts without issue? I like the thought of a higher final drive as the revs are a bit too high when cruising at the moment.
What clutch and flywheel arrangement did you go for, as in fitment. I was looking at retaining the clutch, and flywheel from the current motor (8v ABK(same as ACE)), albeit new items, but wasn't sure if this was right?
Another thought was to use a clutch, fly and box from a V6 coupe to give me 240mm to play with rather than 228mm, but I was unsure on fitment of this. Perhaps you looked into it?
As usual, thanks for your time/patience

Like what you have done here, good to see one reached its end goal and rolling.
Have a question on your conversion as well, did you use the A4 bearing kit or the coupe kit with the disc?
I've got the correct disc just questioning on bearing kit really.Comment

they sit the wrong way around so nope wont fit.
thats your best bet as it will work with your standard gearbox and cope with standard power fine
v6 flywheel wont bolt to 4 cylinder as they have different amount of bolt holes

sorry for answering your questions jim

Hi mate, just seen this, sorry. Pretty much as sam said really.
The gearbox was from a FWD coupe 20v and the code of the gearbox is AMK, sorry if that got confused with engine codes. I only picked that as it had a slightly longer final drive. The standard box would be fine for bolt up fitment.
The clutch and flywheel were from my ACE engine and a direct fit, I too looked at trying to find a 240 conversion but without mega bucks for a fancy flywheel this wasn't possible. The clutch is a SPEC stage 2 (i think
) and is what would be fitted to the ACE engine. This all makes for a simple cost effective single mass conversion.
Hope that helps
The bearing kit I think was from a coupe but I'm not sure. As I posted earlier, I had issues with the sizes as the motor-factors were listing 2 kits. Best of measuring the parts to get the correct bits.
No worries Sam, took me long enough to get there lolComment

Bit more done on the car -
Brake fluid reservoir from an S2 fitted (lower profile) to allow strut brace fitment.
Ignore the red brace this will be painted, im also toying with the idea of making one with a bit more girth
so it doesn't look so puny lol, need to do a bit more tidying up too.
ABY Airbox also in place, and under bonnet insulation -

Dash with FUNK switch for cooling fan, and boost gauge. Volt meter is now a digital unit in the ashtray.

A couple more, was playing with a new camera -

Photoshop from the Mull trip -

Thats all for now

Looking really good mate! Very oem plus (once the red strut brace is sorted).
The ABY/v6 braces are square rather than round.
You must be enjoying it now? How are you finding the extra power?Current-2004 Impreza PPP wagon

The engine bay is looking good, like Andy said very OEM+
What camera are you using?Comment

Yeah this one is off a 3b I think. I like the round bar look rather than the square.
I have been really enjoying it, its only 10 more hp (book figures) than the 16v but its the way it delivers it, pulls really strong from 2500 ish on. Its also a quieter more refined engine too, more pleasant on a long journey.
Im looking forward to getting the T28 fitted, I know this will alter some things in a less desirable direction but the extra power will be much better!
Forgot to mention, im not actually using it much at the mo as im trying to keep her away from the salty roads. Im running my daily at the mo, bought last year -

Absolute banger, but i kinda love it. Done 197,000 miles, runs on LPG, and (touch wood) been pretty reliable too

Im probably not giving the camera any justice at all. Me and the Mrs bought a fancy camera between us for our christmas present. These were taken in poor light and in a rush on the auto setting lol. We are both complete beginners and really need to learn how to use it properly.
The camera is a Lumix G3, I dont know it it can be classed as a DSLR as it is smaller, but it is bigger than the likes of the Nikon1. We were looking at the Nikon D3100 but supply is down and prices are up due to the tsunami! Really impressed with this so far.Comment
