    Taff's UR Saloon

Not a massive amount to report to day been tied up with Landy work.

However Tom waved his air actuated wand and finished the engine bay paint.

So I managed to get a few items cleaned and installed.

Then I decided to spend some time attacking the rats nest of wiring loom that somebody has butchered
This is all that's left in the car the rest is in a box....

So started from the battery, I removed the Avant tray that was bolted to the boot floor and removed the Avant battery cable that was routed through the car.
Then took the carpets out, run a UR main cable didn't the drivers floor and out the front chassis leg, run a UR fusebox lead down the passenger side, clipped all the cables in correctly, removed 40ft of speaker cable, amps and RCA cables.
Then hovered out as much carpet backing that had crumbled in the floorpan and refitted the carpet.

I then one by one refitted the looms through the bulkhead including the ABY engine harness.

Powered up the car with a battery and began testing circuits.

The wiper motor wiring has been hacked out so then spent the rest of the evening going through The pile of boxes that Taff had brought with him....

Will not get any time tomorrow but will update soon

Well gearbox and engine is back in and it muttered a few 20v sounds this morning, but now waiting for fuel line fittings, a radiator, an Intercooler and a few other bits to get the mechanicals done...

All the donor panels have gone for acid dip to remove all the old paint, filler, fibreglass, newspaper, tin foil and seam sealer that's holding them together....

I think tonks4x4 must be an ofspring of one of the band members Kraftwerk! late 70s, early eighties band.Either that, or he has special germanic blood running through his veins or in other words...Vorsprung Dirch Technik....

Right then guys had the wings back from dipping at long last so will be able to give a few updates between other work we have to carry out...

It is quite amazing just how much acid dipping shows up!!!

These wings before they went looked half reasonable.....

This is what we have to work with...

So now have to work my way around the repairs. I have made a start on the front wings to try and get the front of the car back together so at least it can be taken for an MOT.

The dipping removes all rust and shows clearly where the steel is thin.

So next is to cut out the poor steel

Then to cut some steel to shape and form the curves of the original before welding it in.

Then on to some of the fine pin holes on the lower edge of the wing, these are too small to cut the steel away, to thin to weld, so instead load/melt the rear with lead

You can see on the front side where the lead has pooled through the small pin holes. This can be filled back and smoothed off

There was a few more repairs and sections welded into this wing, I have now handed it over to my tame Tom, to Etch prime, stone chip the inner and start work on prepping this wing to be good enough to fit and hopefully last a long time.
