I'm kind of amazed that nobody on the forum has started making them... Must be someone out there with a 3D metal printer lol.

This is what we need - http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/troubl...s/3256tool.jpg - That will work on AAN/ABY/ADU
whilst the 2084 - http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/176130...175_VA6016.jpg - will work on 3B (and older Audi 5-cyls)Paul Nugent

Errr, no find the right tool. People are wary of lending them out as they are hard to find and expensive.
I have a 3B one I have modified to work on an ABY pulley.
I'm not sure if it will work on the AAN as it uses a different snub mount bracket.

See there is a 3256 on UK eBay right now - not cheap but not outrageous either - given the importance of its job !Paul Nugent

Don't waste your time... you need the crank locked to torque it up as well - and you aint doing that with an air gun unless you want the entire forum to hunt you down and taunt you with ridicule about such monkey business ;-)
Buy the right tool - do the job right - then sell onto the next guy for same money.Paul Nugent

The pulley damper is shaped / slotted where the round end goes in... the other end prevents it moving by countering against the snub mount (in case of 2084 tool) or being bolted to block (in case of 3256 tool). I like the ingenuity of Andy10V's tool made from box section (and a pair of Val's old knickers) but it did the job.Paul Nugent

I have cut one off with an angle grinder before (shocking behaviour) on a busted AAH engine by taking off the damper first of all - works fine if renewing the crank pulley, washer and bolt (duhh) but you still need a locking mechanism for the rebuild. The V6 motor locks up entirely differently - much easier actually.Paul Nugent
