I tried bleeding the system several times but water just refuses to circulate. Bottom coolant hoses totally cold even when water temp is 100C. I checked the thermostat by boiling it in hot water and it works like it should. Water pump is new. Even the cap for the reservoir is new. Only thing I can come up with anymore, is that maybe the heater matrix bleed nipple broke when I forced it out. Is it possible that it sucks air into the system from the bleed nipple if it's broken and thus prevents proper coolant circulation?

I'm out of ideas with the coolant circulation problem. Had to open a new thread in the engine department.

Connect directly the hoses from the heater matrix and see if it will be better. Thermostat is in the right direction?

You mean like bypassing the heater matrix? The stat is installed coorectly.

Well if you do that you will know if bypassing it will eliminate your problems

                  Fault found.

Turns out that cheap mfts gave me faulty temp readings on the gauge. Hooked up vcds yesterday and monitored the temps which held between 93-97. Temp gauge showed ~110.

The heater issue however didn't solve. It blows warm but not hot air. Flushed the matrix thoroughly and it flows free. Also no fault codes in the HVAC system. I have take that ventilation box apart some day and inspect the flaps and motors inside.

Also ordered some stuff for the subframe and propshaft overhaul. I'll get started on that when all the parts arrive.

Making some progress here. Took the propshaft out for bearing and u-joint replacement in mind. Of course the joint was crimped in so no chance servicing it myself. So I have to take it to propshaft specialist who has the right equipment for the job.

The cv joints will be replaced before u-joint. The cv boots however were longer that the original ones. I hope that it doesn't cause any premature wear to them.

Some heat shields and bolts have seen better days. But I'm positively surprised how good shape the bottom of the chassis is in. I guess I can push back that welding machine purchase.

Also took the rear anti-roll bar out. It looks like a coat hanger with the plastic drop links and all Will replace it with the Neuspeed 19mm one. Hopefully I can drop the whole subframe out tomorrow.

                        Making some progress:

-splitted the propshaft and installed new centre bearing
                        -replaced both cv joints
-sent the whole prop to specialist to chance the u-joint
-took the subframe and rear diff out

Next step is to remove all bushings and take all the subframe and wishbones for sandblasting.

No chance of taking out the inner cv joints when the diff is of the car. Took a good grip from driveshaft with pipe wrench while a friend tried to undo the cv bolts. Shaft just spun no matter how hard I tried to hold the wrench. Next step is to clamp the shafts to a vice and see if that keeps the shafts from spinning.

Also abs sensors completely seized in the hubs. Fortunately, the solution for cheaper replacement can be found on this forum, as the S2 OEM ones are ~250€

No photos took today but a couple of words what I managed to do past few days:

                          - Propshaft came back from workshop. My doubts about the cv boots durability turned out to be real, as they contacted me from the workshop and said "I see you fitted brand new cv boots but those ain't going to last" Good thing they fitted correct ones for me

                          - Subframe bushings pressed out by local garage

                          - Wishbone bushes are giving me a little hard time. Those **stards can be quite hard to remove after they rusted in place for several years

                          - Changed the diff seals. Or at least that was the plan. When I took the bigger one out, the diff lock engaging fork fell out in two pieces! Luckily that part is still available from the stealers, and I might have found only reasonably priced Audi part! Only 25euros for that

Well that's about it. I will try to take few pictures next time so the thread won't become totally boring

your in Finland and work outside in the snow on your car?
I don't mind working in the cold and a non heated garage. But outside in the snow would make everything harder.

That's me I don't have garage at my home home so only option for me is to do all the work outside. Of course I could rent one but then there is the issue of traveling back and forth. Now you can just hop outside and start working And it it will be quite nice when the summer finally comes back
