Roads Report Details Hazards Hidden Beneath the Surface.

Every 4 yrs in the United States, the American Society of Civil Engineers puts out an Infrastructure Report Card for the nation, which covers 18 categories from Aviation to Waste-water. WRT roads, this part of the report is euphemistically called ‘the Pot-hole Indicator’ (I've emphasized one word from the report extract below.) The latest report assigned a grade of D and says that ‘over 40% of the system is now in poor or mediocre condition. Of note, the vast majority of roads in poor and mediocre conditions tend to be on urban and rural collectors and the non-interstate system, while the interstate system tends to be in good condition.’
They actually measure the surface roughness of highways and road-ways to assess ride quality, and assign a number from what is called the International Roughness Index to each. This helps them prioritize repairs etc. based on science, (instead of political constituency, one supposes!). Unfortunately, the current political situation may not necessarily allow much improvement soon, as budget-balancing has now been passed; to the next generation. The report goes on to say ‘Overall, our deteriorating roads are forcing the nation’s motorists to spend nearly $130 billion each year on extra vehicle repairs and operating costs.’
The situation nearer to you may be similar. However, those statistics need not include you to the same extent. Don’t get caught out, Strut and Arm-Stops together offer preventative protection unlike much else to your car’s vital and most stressed suspension attachment-point joints. The continued good mechanical health these mods help ensure, does much towards your driving enjoyment including improvements to A-arm bush and top-mount service lives, dynamic wheel alignment, steering response, stability while braking and more. Strut-Stops and Arm-Stops provide for simple, cheap, and effective elimination of several routine maintenance chores that will need re-visiting; a lot less often.
