peterp - not that I don't trust you but have you any pics or links of 323mm disks under the 16" Avus's?

    Looks fairly tight with 314s....
David, no its actually a US 200q20V Avant - but I'm guessing they share a few bits!.
Just need to check what material these guys use & how they'll treat them...

I have Porsche 996 calipers with rs2 brackets and A8 314mm disks on my s2, here's how it looks with 16" Avus wheels

      and with 18" RS4 wheels

Thanks for the last picture - thats the setup i am working towards on my s2 with those 18inch RS4 alloys.

Still think behind those wheels i'd like to 'go large' to fill out a little more but it does look good even like that!

        Cheers,

I didn't reaslise Quite how popular this conversion already was!
Yoggi - did the RS2 brackets require any spacers or washers to make them line up properly?

And does the edge of the pad line up with the edge of the disk?

I guess the next question would have to be to Martyn - a price for those little RS2 brackets?
EDIT: £75.50 ea + VAT - thanks martyn!

PS some really cool pics on your site there yoggi!

            Cheers

are there alot of different variants of the 996 calipers?

if so what exact one would be needed?

                greg,

the new 996s use a few calipers.

The ones we're on about here are p/n ......

                996.351.425.11 Left Front
996.351.426.11 Right Front (as far as I know the last 2 digits refer to the colour)

and are used on current model carrera 4 and carrera 2
The turbo'd 996s use a variation on the big reds and are a totally different cup of tea.

Clearly front and rear are different - but the difference appears to be only the piston size. Looking at a front and rear side by side there are only very subtle differences.

These calipers are also used on the current Boxster S (and in this case are known as M008s). The regular boxster uses similar looking calipers but are only for 25mm thick disks. Ask any more Qs as necessary - I've now got the Porsche version of ETKA so think I know it all!

A very comprehensive guideline forthe conversion, with pictures and all the partnumbers can be found at:

                  http://www.audicoupe.de/Audi/tips/br...emsenumbau.htm

To perfectly center the caliper to the disc I needed a 1 mm washer (it is recommended to do so).

                    peter,

I think you've got the calipers confused......

the brake article on that site uses RS2 calipers ?
                    - these are not the same as the 996 calipers.

Also, the same brackets cannot fit 314 disks and 323 disks without spacers at least 4.5mm thick!!!

Those RS4 wheels are screaming out for genuine Audi Centre Caps

                      Jim:
                      www.montyswheelsandtyres.com
                      www.rochfordtyres.co.uk
                      www.tyresave.co.uk

                      And the genuine centre caps:
                      www.vagparts.com

And ask for chrome/silver valves - they will be free if you ask and look a lot better(until the caps get nicked, and nicked, and ........)

doug - you know you can get 'spinning' valve caps that require a tool to lock in before you unscrew them..... from richbrooke?

                            Doug,

                            Try this,

                            http://www.richbrook.co.uk/main_menu.html

Not sure if they spin without the tool or whether they are just locked on.

Neat - only £13 - worth a try - don't know about the audi logo ones though - and I'll get the flush fit valve caps next time.

On the subject of porsche callipers again, if the audicoupe.de site is correct about only needing a couple of washers along with the RS2 brackets I can feel my big brakes getting a hell of a lot closer.

Has anyone confirmed this can be done?
