    Mike,

You can get around the short bolt problem with the 314mm A8 disks by purchasing the bolts for the 17" setup. These bolts are 5mm longer and thus allow you to use the original disk size, rather than machining down to 304mm.

    Part number - N 100 650 02 - M12x1.5x70

Yoggi - I did send you a PM - but it looks like you've not found it yet!!

Can you just confirm that the setup you describe fitted perfectly without any washers or spacers?

I just find it incredible that a brake setup consisting of parts from 4 different cars all bolts together so accurately!

.... PS love your pics of the s2 in the snow - must be wicked fun!!!

Cheers yoggi! - answer from the man himself.... sounds good to me .....

'Yepp i fitted 996 calipers with rs2 brackets and A8 314mm discs without any extra spacers and washers....
Bolt on! You have to change the brakelines because they are to short... thats it!'

just need to save up £130 for the ferodo pads and the £170 for the brackets now!.... b*****d christmas....

            nearly there

well - seeing as there was a question over the cost / reliability of machined brackets & the fact that yoggi had assured me they'd fit, I took the plunge and went for OEM RS2 brackets.......

            and as you can see......

            .....they do indeed fit.

Only thing I notice was that the pad aligning rods (which are only 31mm apart) look pretty close to the disk. Probably about .25mm from the braking surface. However there is a bit of movement in the bolts so this might be enough to centre them perfectly. Otherwise it'd be a case for widening their gap to 32/33mm.

Oh, and the pads overhang the edge of the disk by approx 1mm. Again no problem & it could probably be adjusted out.

All in all a nice fit!
Pads are Ferodo DS2500 (at £150 a pair ) and the Goodridge hoses should be here on Tuesday.......

I love it when a plan comes together.

I take it there are no spacers on there at all? Which callipers did you use?

I've got the brackets, bolts and discs sat in the boot of my avant waiting, just need to get a pair of callipers.

nope - no spacers or washers - exactly as VAG intended.
Part numbers are on a previous post on this thread - they're the 996 C2 or C4 or Boxster S fronts.

I'll post later the details of the hoses - goodridge did try but got them wrong first time round so I've sent em back to have another go!

Martin - if it helps, i'v had a quick measure of the RS2 brackets - Difficult to measure to the centre of a threaded hole, but from what I can tell,
the threaded holes are **edit** 24.7 mm from one face and
the clearance holes are **edit** 27.4 mm from the other face.
Should give you a good starting point if nothing else!

And that first link is for a pair of rears I think..... you can identify them by the bulges shown circled. The fronts don't have any bulges. Rears also have smaller pistons.

And the second link - er I think the guy has his part numbers wrong (which is a bit poor 'cos they're stamped on the caliper itself. ........429 is the p/n for a front caliper on a 996 turbo (bigger pistons again) and I thought were a different overall design again. And the matching caliper is ..........430 not ...........428 like he's saying - so god only knows what he's talking about. A 0 feedback user!

Do I sound like a geek now

Hell, I'm on a roll now! FYI the calipers I'm using are also used as rears on GT3 and 996 Turbos!

It turns out one of my customers runs an independant porsche garage and he informs me that he's got loads of callipers on the shelf. He also claims to be able to get brake pads for porsche callipers in various flavours for very reasonable money.

I shall be going to see him in the near future so will keep you informed.

Jason, my mechanic has also got a set of callipers that I can have, but I'm not sure what they are off or if they will fit yet.

Seller appears to be an idiot. He's using the same part number for 2 different sets of calipers And that p/n is not even for a matching pair of anything!

I think the silver ones are
                            996 351 425
                            996 351 426

                            and the blacks are
                            996 352 421
                            996 352 422

he also has a third auction (here) for rear (hinten) calipers...
these I think are actually fronts and are the ones we are using here.
                            996 351 425
                            996 351 426

I guess someone told him he had 2 pairs of fronts and one pair of rears...... what a dumb *** - how much effort is it to read the p/ns off the calipers before you put 'em on ebay??

                            HTH prospective buyers!

So now we know that the RS2 brackets fit the 996 boxter s callipers, how much could you get this set up for?
