The 3B does not use the diamond washer, although I've fitted the TDi diamond washer on mine, it's on 0.3mm thick

Hehe, just taking the Micky, as Andy says the 3B doesn’t use the diamond washer.

I think it’s purpose is to put some extra friction in between pulley and crank to keep the pulley in place..

Always been a bit of a mystery this diamond washer.

So 3B doesn't use it but S2 ABY, RS2 ADU and S4/S6 AAN do use it?

They are more difficult to get hold of, when i went to purchase on my last belt change they werent available from TPS or tradition. There were some on ebay but still about £20-30 a washer

Are there any physical differences between the 3B and ABY configuration?

What is the P/N for the TDI one ?

Yes, the pulleys are different, the 3B uses a V belt and the ABY a multi rib. This is the TDi washer:-

As John says, it just increase the friction between the pulley and the end of the crank

Aaah, ok makes more sense now, was feeling a bit of a plank for thinking it had escaped my notice but having a 3b...makes more sense
