sorry for the noob question

Well you need the pin swaps on the ECU, 2 x POS units, 5 x coils and the ABY style cam cover / coil carrier... Along with this you need AAN/ABY/ADU ECU of course.
Then you can throw away your rotor arm !Paul Nugent

Well you really dont need the ABY coils and POS units.
I would just get the AAN/ABY/ADU ECU and then do the Pin Swap at the ECU plug
Then I would buy the 034motorsport High Output coil kit if you want to have the coils mounted at firewall etc. and keep the standard 3B look.
Or you could go for the newer S4 V8 coils and just install them directly in the valve cover.
Both coils have built in drivers so the POS units are not needed and both options are way cheaper then stock ABY coils, valve cover etc.
The last thing you would need are power for the coils (I used the power for source the 3B single coil) and then you need 5 wires from the ECU to each coil.Comment

Might as well add this link also for the 1.8t coil conversion

I am really tempted to try out MSD 6520 and 8253 as a simple upgrade to my 3B, but what are these three wires that need changing?
All of my ignition parts have been replaced with OEM less than a couple of thousand miles ago, but I'd still get occasional misfires at high boost (>1.8bar). I'd want brand new parts (apart from the ECU) so I can't really afford to switch over to an ABY setup and then have another remap. I'm not looking for anything like 500bhp, I just realise that I'm pushing the stock parts.David

I got a little help installing mine a few years back so I dont remember the colour codings etc exactly at the moment
. The basics are that you change the stock ignition amplifier placed on the firewall with the Digital 6+ box. And in addition to the wires to the amplifier you obvious need battery +/- to the box and +/- from the box to the new coil. Wiring harness comes with the box.
Here you can see the diferent ways to set it up. With a 5cyl application the box must be in pos 1 (1-6Cyl) mode. http://www.msdignition.com/uploadedF...structions.pdf"Ring addicted"

You running >1.8bar on a K24 turbo ?I am really tempted to try out MSD 6520 and 8253 as a simple upgrade to my 3B, but what are these three wires that need changing?

If so then its pretty much a hot air generator at those boost levels... Not surprised it misfires occasionally but I'd say you are dicing with disaster there if that is the case.
If you look at the coilpack on a 3B you will see it has the POS unit attached to it. When you go aftermarket there will need to get a POS (Primary Output Stage) ignition amplifier that is both compatible with 3B ECU and the chosen coil. There are a few products already mentioned in this thread that seem fit for purpose.
You may also be able to source a suitable coil that has an integrated POS unit which can connect directly to the ignition trigger from the ECU.
I think I posted the 3B ignition circuit on here or S2central.net which can be used as a guide to hooking up some aftermarket systems. Happy to help document that further if I get time.Paul Nugent

Had a look in Babek's project thread at zatzy.com, couldn't find anything about upgrading the ignition system there, there's a few pictures too but coil looks original.Jens Eklunds audi S4 did 970hp on the dyno... And it dit 9,21 on 402m and 256km/h ...
Im guessing it weight around 1400-1500kg..
Theres alot of high output cars in Scandinavia, but the Norris design car is ALOT lighter.. and I mean alot..
THis car ->
Has original pistons, still uses the old ignition, but with better coil i guess.
Original nonported head and 7A cams.. 600whp (weel hp)
