Currently ABY but 7A is tempting, although I'll have to rework the breather... Who has done what?
Which rocker cover with TFSI coils?

aby or AAN is a perfect fit
but now i drive without the coil cover for cooling
the picture is from my caraudi coupe quattro b2 2.2 20vt project (573hp-626nm)

I have 7a with the plug holes bored out, a 3b breather pipe to replace the through cover pipe, hole drilled for breather pipe. Cover was £50, machining worked out at £60. Harness from Alex/Error and new coils. Haven't got it running yet but won't be long. With the rubber boots trimmed down on the coils they sit down securely on the plugs and look pretty good.
I can get some better pictures if you'd like?

I got this off fleabay but need to find some spacer so it doesn't sit on top of the coils although I don't think it mattersComment

This is a 7A cover with plug holes bored out, don't remember the diameter though. A friend did it for me. Added a -AN10 outlet for the breather in the rear, upper side of the cover. I pulled the toothed gear of the camshaft to spare the breather from it splashing oil.

I'll give you my standard answer on this:
Putting a cover, any cover, over the 1.8t/2.0t/TFSI coilpacks will hasten their death due to heat build up.
Better letting them run wild and free:

There are two things that contribute to early death of those transistorised coils IMHO -
1. excess heat generated by longer dwell time than required to run them up to target primary current
2. heat soak exaggerated by placement of the metal cover i.e no air flow
I am looking into this more and more (time permitting).Paul Nugent

The dwell time is an issue but typically only on a 20VT that is being tracked (high RPM for sustained periods). The 4 ms stock dwell time in that situation is too long; prj (dmitri) has already suggested 2 ms is enough for these newer generation coil packs. He modifies the chip sets accordingly (if he knows which coils are going to be used).RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan

Yeah yeah - but do u really think everyone who has fitted a TFSI upgrade has asked dmitri for a chip tweak ???Paul Nugent

Info I have is that dwell is mapped only against battery voltage on the 20VT - it's not like the dwell time is wrong only at high rpm but the coils need more thermal headroom at high load / rpm so that's where you exacerbate the heat issue caused by excess dwell.Paul Nugent

No. I didn't say that. However, *IF* dmitri knows that you are running TFSI coil packs when he sets up the upgraded chip set for you (think Stage 1, Stage 1+, Stage 3, etc) then he will adjust the dwell accordingly.RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan
