Yeh, I'll run it with vag-com tomorrow and see what it's saying. My main problem WAS boost leaks for sure. I think this has just shown up another fault now

My only thought was; the piddley standard intercooler isn't doing its job? (I only ran it on spinks 290 ecu today!)
I'm going to do some runs with vag-com tomorrow. Does anyone know what temp the intake temp should be? I know it's a vague question with lots of variables but what is 'unacceptable' so to speak?

I ran a UrS4 on an ABY Homefried ECU for a couple of years and never had a problem with the Std intercooler. This was boosting to 1.4bar, around 260-270bhp I'd guess. What boost is your ECU giving?

You should be looking for high 11 / low 12 at WOT... I think you are too lean and that increases temperature and chances of knock.

Have you cleaned your MAF connector? Have a look for my thread about it. Makes the car feel like it has a boost leak when it doesn't.

Yup. But mostly in the dark. If you see it glowing in the daytime, then you might be getting a knock on the door by the local constabulary
