You can't see knock sensors on any "breakout thingy".
Looking at the knock sensor signal does not tell you if the ECU is doing something with it or not. There is a lot more to knock monitoring - that is why the ECU needs the hall sensor for example etc.

Need proper knock retard logging to make any conclusions whether the ECU is pulling timing back or not. And for that you need either some arhaic factory diagnostics tool or custom code in the ECU.

Ah right. To be honest I no longer have any confidence that this car will ever be right.

I've asked this before but is there anyway I can stop them pulling the timing JUST to prove?

Leading on from what John has said, have you verified the mechanic state of the engine via either a leakdown test or comp test? Guess we have been precoccupied with sensor/ecu issues.

Yes both. Checks out well in the 'good' range. It's also the way sometimes the power all comes back like a switch has been thrown. Not the way wear works.

Could be a red herring but I've had some of your symptoms on the coupe since doing the 3B - ABY pin-swap and 5 coil ECU mod. At the same time I changed injectors and software so it was not easy to track down.. What could be wrong? Coils, injectors software, all changed.. What we knew for certain was that the ECU was detecting knock and pulling timing but not always doing it. At half throttle the car drove better than at full throttle and really didn't like full throttle below 4k5. The car drove much better when cold than when hot.

Last night I had a real close look at the engine wiring harness again and I found 2 broken pin carriers in 2 of the injector connectors, the plastic was just crumbling, the female pins were not being held in the right position to mate properly with the males. Replacing the connector housings seems to have solved the issue, hopefully I'll have time tomorrow to log the car and see if I've eliminated the problem completely.

Andy P. had that same problem.

Yes, I had some good spares on a B5 V6 loom I was given, these would do the trick too..

                        Another thought for Rich.

Have a look for anything physically loose on the motor which could be tapping or banging against the head or block manifolds which coulds be mistaken for knock by the ECU.

Okay, did it go in on the 21st? If so, what was the diagnosis? We need to know.

The weekend I took it up there my house was broke into and a substantial amount of money taken so even if it is cured the car will be for sale. I have little interest in the fault at the minute.
