Yes sure I know. The S200SX-E will propably be my next turbo in this car after this dies. But this turbo isn't so bad in real life after all. It spools up way before what you see in the dyno graph. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4c8fwux3R0Last edited by Thuppu; 10 June 2018, 13:22.

Yeah sure, let's put in 6th gear on motorway and check spool. That's not how this works
Well the dyno is probably one of those ****** inertia ones with 0 load too.Comment

4:th gear, 3:rd not much difference. The dyno has a breake, I don't know why always live road is a bit different than on dyno..? It has been so on every single dyno I have been on.
But the point in my dyno graph post was just to show what this turbo was capable of with that tiny .48 housing, because there was speculation about it earlier. In the end it is interesting to test something different than just the basic HX35S. Also the budget was tight when I build the engine and the turbo was cheap. Next uppgrade is then someting different. Sorry that I caused your blood pressure to rise with this ****** graph and dyno.
Either way I'm quite pleased with the turbo, it has low inertia and fast acceleration after gear change(compared to Holsets) so it feels very nice. Also the dyno is close to me, it is simpple to go there and dyno/tuning time is quite budget friendly.

When you have TDI box, then your 4th gear is like normal gearbox 5th or 6th, but doesn't matter.
A/R is only finetuning, the biggest difference is from the turbine wheel.
As for the dyno - you get what you pay for. Simple.Comment

01A AAR gearbox in the vid. So you say an 54/62 turbo would not go over 500hp with an bigger hot side..?(even if it's oldschool) I suspect it could gain 50+hp with an .82 housing, but it could be too laggy. Would be fun to try a .63 though.
Hmm, what is soo wrong with this dyno..? I don't get it...

Nothing wrong with this Dyno, it's a very interesting data point. I agree a larger housing would shift power on the graph to the right and brake 500hp.

I think he meant that if Thomas always finds the results different to the real world then the dyno isn’t doing a very good job of replicating real world conditions in terms of load control / ramp ratePanthero Coupé quattro 20vt

Correct.
And yes, housing matters very little in the end compared to the turbine wheel itself. A GT30 turbine even with 1.06 A/R will flow less than a GT35R turbine with a 0.63 A/R.
The housing is fine-tuning, the turbine wheel is what makes the biggest difference.Comment

They flow broadly the same, but the gt35 is more efficient. Ar ratio can make a large difference, just look at vnt turbos on diesels. Small area for fast spool then the ar gets so big it doesn't need a wastgate at high rpm and therefore is much more efficient. A wastgate wastes energy, so the bigger the ar housing you can live with the better for efficiency and exhaust gas temperature. But I agree your best trying to match the turbine wheel to the housing better. So a large turbine wheel works poorly in a tiny housing and vise versa. The happy place for gt30 and gt35 turbos is about. 0.82.Originally posted by prj

Of course it can make a big difference, but diesel A/R is very different. If you look how the vanes are adjusted then when it's fully open vs fully closed the A/R changes MUCH more than the 0.63 to 1.06.
In the end it's about using the right sized turbine. Also, A/R depends on engine size. For 2.2T I agree, but for 1.8T I'd pick a 0.63 A/R on a GT turbo, and for a 3.2 VR6 I'd go 1.06.Comment

Agreed. What is the max power on uk pump petrol you have seen from a gt35r to gtx35r on 0.82 housing. For track work I was considering a 1.06 on my gt35 stroker with billet wheel. Hoping for a reliable 600 real bhp..Originally posted by prjOf course it can make a big difference, but diesel A/R is very different.
