Step 3 uses vacuum assistance from the exhaust or a pump to evacuate the fumes to atmosphere... Gotta run lads. Enjoy !

Cheers Paul - Mark has option 2 - I will do this, and will look to modify this when we work out a suitable vacuum pump.

What are you going to do Greg?

      Now where's that bin

Great pics Paul, youve been meaning to do those pics for a long time

Its not really that complicated once you study it. I am tempted to do option 2 with the old nail, as its getting older and the blow by has to be increased, meaning more oil is getting into the inlet air.

Found an egg cup full (or 2!) in bottom of intercooler the other day so it may be time to get the custom SS catch tank made.

Cheers for those diagrams Paul, will be very useful.

same as will be going with option 2 to start with. Like idea of using exhaust instead of pump though because will vary vacuum with the engine and no extra mechnics to worry about. Less moving parts the better.

not had a chance to examine the mocal tank properly yet to see baffles etc in it.

Could be an issue although you could add the vacuum take off after the Cats if you wanted.

The idea of an electric pump is pretty cool but you have to have something pretty strong to match what the exhaust can produce.

I was pulling over 20" of water on a U tube when i was playing which is quite some vacuum being created.

              Greg,

No baffles in the MOCAL unit, just a 'puke' type tank, will need modding ,
Oh well not a big problem to do.
I too like the idea of using the exhaust to create the vacuum, Bigtoe where abouts were you tapping into the exhaust system to pull 20" of (water)vacuum......downpipe or further down, or does it matter where?

              Cheers,

              Mark.

Might see if i can take it to a machine shop and get them to fit a baffle into the mocal tank, sure there is a way round it.

What about using the sensor connections after the cats on the standard exhaust or similar if fitted on aftermarket one.

@Doug and his diagram - yes you can remove all that breather gubbins as per your modded ETKA pic.

But you must keep the EVAP system hooked up to the inlet manifold as per my diagram so that treated fuel tank fumes are properly vented. You'll need to blank the other end of that EVAP valve connection where it meets one of the stock breather hoses.

I added a small pipe just before the system attached on a sunbeam fitted with a special 2.2L engine. So your looking at a large bore 4-2-1 manifold then the pipe.

                      Bigtoe Hi,

I need to pick your brains a bit more

I'm planning ahead to do this modification, could you have a look at this picture and tell me if I've got this right with regard to the breather pipe to the downpipe (is it the right shape/configuration), and will it generate in your opinion, the vacuum needed?
What diameter do you think would be optimal (if any) in your experience for the breather pipe to the downpipe?

In short does it look right

                      Cheers,

                      Mark.

Are you putting a right angle piece of metal in your downpipe or a straight pipe at an angle faces down?

                          Doug,

what I visualized there would have been swept bends, but the program I used only allows right angles (well not strictly true but I am Kack at drawing with it with a mouse). I think that the outlet of the pipe has to be pointing in the same direction as the exhaust flow within the downpipe to create vacuum, but I am not 100% certain. Hence the question .

But a good point I think that a straight pipe with an angled cut, would probably do the same job.

I only want to have to do this once and get it right first time......hopefully
                          .

I think you want the pipe to meet the down pipe at 90 dgs. Not in the flow of the gases. This way it will draw the gases out as the exhaust gas flows past it. Like blowing over the top of a coke bottle!
