Mark, can you post a pic of how you connected to the crankcase breather outlet?

The short bit of rubber hose on there is 30mm diameter - was think of getting a lump of round metal that diameter, tapping a hole and using an adapter on that. PITA removing those metl hoses - one has cable ties screwed to it.

Also - Did you remove the unused breather hose inside the rocker cover? How you do that?

            Thanks

              Doug,

I'll take a pic tomorrow and post it, thats basically what I did used a piece of metal 30mm daimeter, but mine had a male thread on it already, buts its the same thing. I'll probably do it different when I get the engine out one day and weld a -8 JIC weld nipple to the metal pipe that comes off of the block.
No need to remove the metal transfer hose from the rocker cover, just leave it in. In fact it would cause problems if you did cos you'd have two openings in to the cover then that would need blocking up. but you can remove the front one that normally goes to the inlet boot, its just pressed in, twist and it will come free.

I know what you mean about the metal breather pipes, feckers to get off!

              Mark.

Thats all you need to do.I ran a pipe with a 10mm internal bore and just welded it as per your second drawing.

@Mark,Greg and Doug.Have you managed to fit this system. Have you all used a mocal catch tank?

                        Cheers

I'm using the mocal tank in the same config as Mark. Greg has one (not fitted) but is thinking of making a cyclone type tank, so he might have one for sale.

When the car was running before it blew up, I was getting some clean oil on top of it - it is vented to air through the orange cap. It could do with at least a small filter on there.

It would also be a good idea to get one with baffles inside - that would cause the oil vapour to condense and the oil wil run down to the bottom of the tank. You can also stuff it with a stainless or plastic mesh.

I know Ben (S2Avant - parts daddy) was getting one with baffles made - you could maybe ask him.

The next step was to vent it to the exhaust so i would create a vacuum in the tank.

I'll wait to see how min is before I mod it further - it is a good indication of steam or excess pressure due to worn rings.

Doug, if you remember I discovered a bad leak in the hose below the (PCV valve ?) on Sunday at the garage meet. After discussing this with you and Martin etc, I blocked the hose which goes from the valve to the rest of the system. The car ran much better on the way home and has done since which leads me to believe that quite a lot of air had been entering the system, unmetered by the MAF and causing lean running at certain rpms, throttle openings, an occasional stumble that I had seems to have gone.

I would think that high mileage engines that are breathing a bit heavy could be pulling in quite a bit of unmetered air causing lean running and high egt and of course oil which can cause detonation even with a fully working stock breather system.

Makes me wonder about Tom's car and his high egt.

I also understand that a little vacuum in the system helps to stop oil seals from leaking I'd be unwilling to lose that effect.

Doug have you drilled and tapped a hole in the sump or into the drain bolt?

I bought a fumoto valve - the thing you can use to do an oil change by moving a small lever.

I modified the case so it would lock in the open position and I tapped the end and put in a whatever thread to JIC adapter
