  • V8 Torsen to CQ question

I read through the sticky on Torsen V8 rear diff swap and im still unclear about one issue....

Can I do this swap and maintain my stock CQ 4x108 hubs or must I swap to the S2 5x112?

Its my understanding that one driveshaft flange from the Coupe Quattro can stay but the other must be swapped to the v8 drive shaft. So I guess my real question is will the v8 driveshaft fit to my CQ hubs?

I have done this mod. Cq20 diff flange is a smaller diameter than the V8. You MUST use both V8 diff flanges since the splines on the S2 / CQ ones don't engage far enough and strip easily.
Unfortunately you cannot simply swap to use the larger S2 inner CV joints since the splines on the inner end of the driveshaft are different. You need to use both complete S2 coupe rear driveshafts - the outer CV joint is the same on both so they will bolt straight up to your 4x108 hubs.

        Thanks guys Very helpful information

so in order to successfully pull this off I will need...

        V8 Torsen diff
        CQ diff housing
        Both V8 diff flanges
        2 S2 Coupe rear driveshafts
        2 inner S2 cv joints
new left and right V8 O ring/possibly new bearings
        80W140 synthetic diff oil

        Any thing else?

IIRC thats it, just remember to check the backlash once you've fitted the torsen in the cq housing I'm assuming you will replace the diff mounts as a matter of course?
New hub bolts are a must when you refit the driveshafts obviously

Yea most likely. Out of curiosity what would you deem a fair value for the diff? How much does it weigh complete? I have had several things shipped over seas but the weight of this thing would probably make it not worth it. I have a few prospective sellers in the US.

                        hi,

does anybody know if there is a difference between the AXZ for automatic transmission and the axz for manual gearbox?

                        best regards,

In the U.S. we only saw V8 with automatic transmission. I would think these would be a better candidate for the simple fact that they have most likely seen less abuse.
