  • ABY clutch pedal linkage problems

Having spent a few minutes hanging upside down in the footwell of my coupe I have identified a problem with the clutch linkage. It appears that the joint between the pedal attachment and master cylinder linkage is shot. The rubber (?) bush has worn excessively and the metal cup on the end of the master cylinder linkage has become damaged as a result. Now when I press the clutch pedal down the whole linkage buckles before actuating the master cylinder and it's a real pain.

I have included a picture of the offending part.

    My questio is this:-

Can the master cylinder linkage be removed and therefore replaced without a new master cylinder?

If so where's best to get the parts?

If not what is the cure? (new master cylinder? )

Cheers as ever for any help.

Looks like you need a new one....

I changed mine recently thinking it was the cause of my problems when it actual fact it wasnt so should be working fine.

New ones are something like £150 i believe as the ABY Master Cylinder is specific, where as the rest of the entire Audi 80 range uses the same one.

I still have mine sitting around, make me an offer if you want mine, as far as i know there is nothing wrong with it at all, not sure how old it is etc tho.

          Is there a BTDT anywhere??

How much do you want for the cylinder... I would make an offer but wouldn't want to offend a fellow S2 owner!

          Cheers

I did mine a couple of years ago after that linkage snapped in half, not a nice job from what I remember. sorry cant remember much more about it though, done too much other stuff to the car since then.

I did a normal Audi 80 a while back, from what i can remember it wasnt too bad a job. But then it wasnt an S2,, so it is probably a nightmare to do!!!

If you pull the rubber boot back you may find you can just change the pushrod, you can on some.

                    Excellent BTDT Ant.

On the by any chance ? LOL.

It's only a matter of time before that push rod snaps. Mine went last year. It is an easy job - less than an hour IIRC. Make sure you use a genuine Audi cylinder though. The one I used from GSF was slightly different and snapped again within hours of being fitted.
