  • K24R 300mm / 314mm budget rear brake upgrade

Looking in to rear brake disc options that retain the OEM rear caliper. Should be a very cheap way to add some extra meat to the rear brakes with minimal fuss and total safety. Watch this space...

Fecking rear caliper bolt hex rounded on me while trying to remove it... will have a fight with it at the weekend. Got some replacements in the cupboard from one of my just in case orders to Vag Parts way back when

Carriers on their way to you... I hope you didn't want me to measure them before they were sent.... coz I forgot....

          Complete with fully working sliders...

You will need to clean the rust of them though if you want them to look pretty

Are you going to space the caliper out?

Irwin do a great tool for those caliper carrier bolts, hammer it on and undo. Has saved me a lot of grief a few times now.

Life/knuckle/sanity savers. Best 'tool' I've ever bought

Rusty, would you mind measuring the dimensions of the slider for me when you receive these? Would be much appreciated

Sweet, cheers, I'll look that up.

Not measured the rear piston size but will do so. Surely the informatiojn is on here somewhere?

I haven't found a 300mm disc that's suitable but have found some in the 275-290mm region, which require minimum modifications to fit. I'm going to try the smaller end of the scale, as there are 2 identical hat discs that are at opposite ends. The idea is that you buy some discs, brackets and maybe a tiny spacer for behind the disc and it's all bolt on with no fuss.

I have also found some suitable 12mm discs that I'll be looking in to once I get the carriers off Chris

302mm discs are fitted to some A6s but the hat height is all wrong and they're 12mm thick, not 11mm, so I wonder if that's the same disc...

Do those Irwin tools work on cap heads? That's what's rounded off...

Volvo have a 302mmx11mm rear disc that's fitted to their S60s. The hat height is pretty good but the centre bore and PCD are both wrong.
