Dude it looks good but needs hitting with the lowering stick now severely!

What nuts do I need here? The one circled in red is the only one left and seems to have loosened itself since yesterday when it was pretty much at the end of that stud!
Being on the turbine side of the turbo I'm assuming any old material will not do???Attached FilesComment

What ever you do DONT lower it. Unless you really don't care about how the car handles and are simply going for looks. On UK roads with pots holes, drains etc it makes the ride much less enjoyable as nothing is soaked up by the suspension. For track use lowered/uprated make a difference.
From memory you have a good setup - Koni Sport springs and dampers. The invoice is in with the paperwork, you can then check exactly what they are.Comment

Jack, my car is exactly the same as yours down to the colour lol and mine is lowered on H&R's and has RS2 ARB's and it handles just fine to me. I actually prefer it being slightly harder than standard and prefer how it handles on the lowering springs. Yes every now and then I wish i hadnt lowered it but that is once in a blue moon. I must admit the thing that has ruined it for me was fitting the 18" A8 Sport wheels which will be coming off when i find a nice set of 17" OEM looking wheels as replacements. What ever you do DONT lower it. Its your car and if you want to try to lower it then do. If you then dont like how it rides swap em back out and sell them on. Simples

Those wheels are 17" S4 Avus wheels. The suspension will already be lowered slightly - maybe 15mm from stock S2 with the Koni sport setup. I'm not here to argue just trying to save him some pennies. It was my car for some time and having had many variations of Avants on different wheel sizes, offset and suspension types was just offering my personal view.

No he doesn't!!! Hes just round the corner form me and we should meet
The roads in hertfordshire are a laughing disgrace. And i pay 3 lots of car tax at the moment for roads that are a joke and full of speed cameras as Christophie will agree. Dorset has considering the financial squeeze good roads by comaprison!

I didnt realise it was one of your old wagons in which case, Jack, if its already lowered I wouldnt go any further lol. The roads in Herts are shocking in all honesty but I avoid the worset ones if I can. Those wheels are 17" S4 Avus wheels. just call me Mark. Yes Rickmansworth. Nice little drive from Croxley green through to sarrat/chipperfield. The Old road to Amersham if you know it a bit further along from Clement st danes school on the right that passes the cricket club i reckon is probably the worst i have ever seen.
We should meet up at ADI if your going?96 URS6 plus speck saloon

I'm only thinking of lowering a bit more than it is now, just to make it look right on those wheels. At the moment the suspension is a bit on the soft side and reminds me of my standard 3B I had a few years ago, wallowing about and diving quite severely. I can sacrifice some ride comfort for a more reassuring feeling in the bends as I'm going out of my way to drive on a good stretch of road more and more often.
I know where you're coming from though Trist - I would have advised me against this a few weeks ago but I think it was about as good as it was ever going to look on 16" Avus and I thought it would be better to have two different wheel styles for winter tyres/regular tyres.
In an ideal world I'd have the money and space for a coupe as well to modify the hell out of it! My Avant needs to stay (semi) sensible as it's my daily driver

I thought your Avant drove really nicely on the Koni kit when I had a spin in a couple of years ago, felt like the springs and dampers were matched really well and suited the car perfectly which I guess they should do by rights given that their Koni's.
If you do end up giving some other springs a whirl don't sell those ones!1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.

As many of you may have seen here I've been having trouble with a persistent noise coming from the engine.
I already had a suspension overhaul (partly) planned, but I think the engine bay is now more important. I'm in the middle of acquiring another set of cams as the sprockets on mine have signs of wear according to my mechanic. Today's oil change doesn't seem to have made any difference - I'll have to wait a few days to make a conclusive assessment of what a heavy foot does, but at the moment I'm not happy with the sound/s it makes just on idle.
There's a quieter ticking, noisy aux. belts and definitely an air leak of some sort coming from somewhere - possibly due to my shearing off of a bolt in the intake manifold and a bit of a bodge job done on drilling it out and re-threading it.
So after the first weekend in September I'll be borrowing my parents' old car (unfortunately not their B7 2.0T quattro Avant
) and leaving the S2 with my mechanic for however long it takes...
As well as sorting out this noise I'm thinking it'll be worthwhile replacing anything else that's tired/worn out. This is by no means a money no object job but I reckon quite a few things could be sorted while it's off the road and I have transport for getting to work. Is there anything in particular that's worth sorting while it's under the knife? Anything that's liable to go pop and I might as well replace before it shows signs of dying? I'm thinking brake bomb, waste gate, POS, that sort of under bonnet thing.Comment
