The task is MUCH easier with a B3 saloon base - the best S2 donor then becomes a Coupe of course - B3 you see...

Personally I dont think a B3 based S2 saloon is going to be as sexy but it will be damn fine vehicle and if you start with a 5cyl base then you have none of the drama with engine mounts.

A B3 saloon isn't just as practical as the B4 - the rear seats dont fold down on the B3 and I'm not 100% sure if the carbonised door cards from B4 swap into B3. Still - there is more to life than carbon inserts

The other alternative is a B2 based quattro saloon... Weld the doors shut, paint it orange and ......... oh yeah .......... thats been done already

In its own right that one on eBay is a desireable B3 Q saloon - with KV motor by looks of things - great car - very rare actually.

the b3 limo has also the front suspension different... door cards fit.

the b3 limo doesent look as good as the b4, not even close.

if you do this, do it the right way, the b4 way.

shells galvanized from 1986 btw, 10 years warranty from that date too.

Agreed that B4 is the way to go... Somebody snap that 10VQ up for an absolute steal.

And yes - the B3 Saloons had slightly different front running gear - different wishbones and struts to accomodate a different ARB... No reason why S2/B3 Coupe front end couldn't bolt straight on.

There is a black b4 80 quattro on pistonheads for 500, i bet he would drop too cause its been on there a while with short mot too. Just need the cash now and the project would be started!

S2 Avant and S2 Sedan are same B4 platform - the B4 sedan absolutely does not use Coupe suspension (but a B3 Sedan does).

Its a 'simple' task of removing S2 Avant running gear and transplanting into B4 quattro saloon shell. Different spring & damper rates I suspect but thats all. Brakes, driveshafts, diff etc all the same.

B3 Saloon is same format as B3 Coupe - Mcpherson struts front and rear.

B4 platform (from MY92 onwards) for Saloon and Avant uses dual wishbone design at the rear.

B3 have all got macpherson struts on the rear...for the q coupe and sedan.

B4 has 'double wishbone' rear end, as you'll find on all the q sedans and avants.

Coupe is really only b4esque in its later s2 guise.
