I guess the rocker cover gasket has gone. Ordered a new one today along with the RPM sensor, oil, oil filter and air filter.

I'm now down to 5 fault codes. Changing the sensor now pulls in the relay and we have fuel at the spark plugs, but still refuses to start.
I'm ignoring the first four and want to concentrate on 00532.
01257 ISV
01247 N80 Solenoid Valve
01262 N75 boost valve
00513 RPM Engine speed sensor (Just replaced)
00532 Supply voltage
With reference to 00532, it says poor earth connection to J220. What is J220?
PS I've had the wiring off the inlet manifold and cleaned all of this up.

Check the connector for pins pushed back
Meter from the connector to chassis to be sure all the grounds are good

Whilst checking the earths again on the IM, the one for the coil packs was VERY loose and the bolt had not even been tightened up properly, in fact there was a gap of about 3mm. Plugs are now saturated in petrol, so I've left them out overnight and will come back to it tomorrow.

Looks like there are a few earth connections for the ECU

I swapped the original plugs back from the SWB and noticed that these were a lot deeper. The 00532 code has now gone and I'm left with:
01257 ISV01247 N80 Solenoid Valve01262 N75 boost valve00513 RPM Engine speed sensor (Just replaced)
Engine turns over and on occasions almost fires and then it momentarily stops turning and then starts turning again which I find odd.
All x5 off plugs are saturated in fuel when I remove them, so I am now thinking that it is ignition related. Might be worth noting that it is running the TFSI coil setup.Last edited by steverrquattro; 24 February 2019, 22:26.

Is the ground on the coilpack loom connected, it usually ends up on one of the cam cover bolts.
As far as codes I reckon all three of those other devices share a ground on the IM.
Are you using Vagcom? If so you can do an output test to see if they click.
Engine speed won’t go away till the engine starts.

Pull a plug and lay it in it’s coilpack on the cam cover and crank it over, you should see a fat spark.

Just installing VCDS on the laptop and will try my new lead shortly.

Right so it seems there is an old alarm install that needs to be traced and removed. Time to look under the dash for wires connected to the back of the ignition switch and to the ECU loom on the passenger side.
