It's all coming together nicely, just some coolant pipes to finish and fill her with fluids
New 6mm Nomex/carbon spoiler, hopefully this will help pull the air from under the car helping drive air through the rad without creating too much understeer (needs a couple more turnbuckles in the centre too)
Great big side intakes
New rad
The new charge air cooling setup took a lot of head scratching to fit it all in but the proof will be in the intake temps.
I've also moved the original power steering pump to the other side of the engine, I had to make new power steering pipes as the old ones wouldn't reach. The new pipes retained all the internal flow restrictors of the original audi pipes.

Well the S2 Golf had her first outing on a track last weekend Quite pleased on how it went, no real drama.
First time out I cooked the brakes and the crossover pipe came loose on the left front caliper, after that we were aware that the brakes couldn't stop the car from 140+mph down to the hair pin so we limitd the car to 130 on the straight. Better pads and cooling ducts are on the cards to sort that out.
Engine wise everything was perfect. I ran the car with 1.5 bar boost and set the shift light to 6800rpm, this was plenty of power for the track. Water temps were rock solid 85-90 all day, oil temp maxed at 90. Air inlet temps were in the range of 25-30c on boost so all the cooling mods seem to have done the trick (We'll see what happens on a hot day?).
Chassis wise there is a lot more potential, body roll was the main issue and understeer in the low speed corners. Im looking at fitting a nuespeed 21mm RARB as the kw rear springs seem very soft. Obviously the 195x45x16 Yokohama tyres could be improved on but I'll take it one step at a time.
The best bit of the day was the Porsche 911 turbo driver asking what the hell was under the bonnet after he assumed he was going to pass me on the straight. Bye bye . His excuse was, "It's tuned to 600hp but I never had it in sports mode"

Have you got S2 KW coilovers then? They're 60N/mm up front, so about 360lb/in. For a track car, you want nearly double that - 600lb/in.
If you're replacing springs, then uprate the rear springs by a bit more, to help with understeer. Fitting a larger ARB might work on the road but on track, you'll just pick up a wheel under hard cornering and end up spinning the power away. Not so much of an issue on a heavier S2 but on your flyweight effort, it'll be a pain.
I've run HnRs (softer than KWs again) with a massive rear bar and it's nice on the road but on track, it does move around and on tight corners everything is fighing each other
PMSL at the Paunch 911 turbo owner. I love annoying Porsche, Scooby and especially Lotus owners on track, it's fun.Cheers'en, AndyC

Thanks for the info Andy, Yes I have KW V2's. You say 60N/mm up front, any idea about the rear? I can see the car doing a lot more track action so maybe springs is the way to go.

You can see the body roll here.

Great to see the car out on track and good that you have sorted the cooling issues. Definitely looks like it needs some stronger anti roll bars. I wouldn't worry about it picking up a wheel as you wont be on power when turning hard at the apex.

Maybe stiffer springs and a stiffer RARB would be a good start then.
What springs are you running on yours Hamish?
Edit: Just seen in your thread 450lb front 550lb rear, how was it with that setup? Also you've now changed to S2 struts so did you keep the same springs?
