Windscreen removal did not go to plan.
Someone had used panel bond inside the seal. It was never going to end well.

Thanks to all for the above discussion around the Koni install instructions etc., I'm going to add some of that into the Bilstein into MacP Strut thread, as at its root this addresses a shared threat with sensible alternate counter-measures. You may be interested to know I did find freeze/crush damage to one of my stock original Boge's which was so distorted, it was also difficult to remove from the strut. Having neither a drain-hole or oil-fill, the strut-tube had on its own become water-filled; of which, correct; didn't take much. My guess is it entered via the 6-sided opening in the OEM strut-tube cap-nut. Of course this wasn't apparent at the time, or fatal till winter and is interesting in that it is a little known variation on "Frozen Strut Syndrome" that in this case only (a conventional, sealed twin-tube type damper) does require freezing temperatures.

Ps. If anyone is buying Koni shocks, Winpart in Holland supplied mine at a very good price. Koni shocks are made in Holland

It is a cooling issue - the antifreeze helps heat bridge the gap between the shock insert and the strut body. Heat passes through a fluid better than air. I remember hearing about this year's and years ago, it was a Ford factory tip to help their mk2 escort rally cars stop boiling their dampers!

    Possible, or to prevent corrosion?

How did you set yours up John? I want a comfortable ride if possible.
