I bought some new Koni shocks for the car. I'm not ready to fit yet but was interested to read in the instructions that you are meant to put 50mm of antifreeze in each tube. What have others done? I remember reading some put oil in and some drill a hole in the bottom of the strut housing. The instructions aren't great eitherNothelle S2 Avant

Must be 50ML? 50mm would be almost 2 inches of fluid? Haha. Good luck getting the shocks in to the struts then

The drilling a hole in the bottom of the strut housing is when fitting bilstein B6. It's to do with letting out water that could other wise interfere with the operation of the internal bump stops. Apparently it can get to the stage where incompresible water fills the gaps where your compressible bump stop should be...
Bang crash crunch bang is the resultant ride.

I wonder why they recommend that? Maybe cooling?

I have Billies on the Ur
On the coupe the Konis are set 1/2 turn from full soft on the rear and 1 turn from full soft on the front

It is a cooling issue - the antifreeze helps heat bridge the gap between the shock insert and the strut body. Heat passes through a fluid better than air. I remember hearing about this year's and years ago, it was a Ford factory tip to help their mk2 escort rally cars stop boiling their dampers!
