Thanks Anthony. The devil is in the detail on a restoration. Get the bits you will never see right and I'm happy.

So the battery tray and boot trims got cleaned and fitted.

And I had a nice surprise when I looked in the spare wheel well.

        Looks unused.

Gave the well a clean and re glued the rubber protector pads.

        Then the post came.

So I wasted no time in getting it fitted.

It's a perfect match to the original and came with all the bits to fit including a new top nut and copper washers.

        Cap and seal cleaned.

The return pipe popped out when I removed the pump. It fits into a slot in the side of the basket. The o rings had melted.

Fortunately I had a couple of vitron o rings that should be ok in petrol.

Anyway, there was a problem when I went to refit. The pipe bent and crimped as I was fitting the pump in the basket.

I didn't want to risk using it like that. I cut off the bent section, heated it up and re fitted.

        Then in it went.

        And I couldn't resist a quick test.

        It's good.

Nice clean petrol coming out and at a good rate.

So then I fitted a battery.

          And turned the key

The plan was to build some oil pressure with the plugs out but it's not turning over at all. The dash lights come on and the immobiliser light illuminates. Doh. I was half expecting this. It has an array of alarms and lights fitted so I'm going to be busy tracing all the wires and removing what I need to.
I believe the standard immobiliser should allow the engine to turn over but not start, or start briefly then cut? Anyone?

Yes had this before where it starts momentarily then cuts. I tried fitting an immobiliser ecu to my 93 car and learnt the hard way

So after a little head scratching I discovered that the ignition lights came after the car remote was used to unlock the doors. This allowed me to turn the engine over and hopefully build some oil pressure. I say hopefully because the aux gauge isn't moving. Nervous grin.
So then the plugs went in.

              Fuel tank connection re connected.
Got the phone set up to hopefully record first start. Unfortunately, not playing ball today. Engine turns over but isn't firing. A quick check revealed I have good fuel pressure at the fuel rail but the injector's aren't operating.
              Out with vagcom.

So we do have an immobiliser issue. Beam me up Scotty.

If it's the same as the S2 Avant there's a chip in the key and a sense coil near the ignition barrel, the little two pin connector in the wire to the sense coil can have a bad connection, you could try popping it apart and clean the pins. IIRC the wire is about 20 or 30cm long so can be hidden up behind the dash?

Or are you using a copy key without the chip?

Or yes it could be an aftermarket alarm immob install going wrong..

Thanks. I will give that a try. Just also found that on the Rosstec site.
I only have 1 key with the car. It looks to be the main key.
I was expecting the car to fire up and cut out with factory immobiliser. I think they may be another issue preventing initial start as well. I'm going to do some more tests tomorrow and maybe try the Nothelle ecu to rule out or in factory immob.

If it's the factory immobiliser that's holding you out it'll illuminate the immobiliser (orange) light in the cluster to show you that it's active. It should let you start and then run but only momentarily; you've not got long before it cuts you out.

As mentioned earlier, you can get around the immobiliser by loading the non immobilised software version in the ECU but there's also another way to bypass the immobiliser without changing the ECU at all.

PM me if that turns out to be helpful and I'll let you know.

Thanks. I will let you know. There is a small immobiliser type connector in the centre consul that i dont have the key for. I need to investigate that as well. Unfortunately, this car has been off the road for nearly ten years and the last owner sadly passed away after booking the car in for restoration, which was partially done.

This looks like carnage but it's actually going quite well. So far I've traced 80% of the wires where they cut into the original loom.

I googled the alarm and it's actually a good quality system. They are the same company that make the ghost immobilisers now.
