When I took this one out, I found one of the over centre springs broken and the pushrod already welded so I completely rebuilt the pedal box, powder coated pedals, new accelerator pedal, cable wheel, MC, springs and Ultra Delrin bushed the pedals for me, also pedal rubbers (not shown)...again, only possible because of Tradition.

I fitted a Febi brake light switch and rebuilt the steering shaft bearing as well.

My wheels have gone (at last) to be refurbished in the proper silver colour.
Whilst the wheels are off, I decided it was a good time to deal with my squeal from the front left brake caliper.

I wish all cars were this easy.

I bought new anti squeal shims from design 911. These are the correct part numbers for big redds.

There are two sizes and one shim for each piston.
Getting the old shims out. Audi manual says to use a spatula. This worked well.

Only one shim was loose. The adhesive pad had come off and therefore allowed it to vibrate.
The pads need to be very clean so the adhesive works. The shims have self adhesive pads.

Getting the new shims into the pistons with the backing paper off is interesting. Got there in the end. They must be properly seated before you slide the pads in otherwise they catch and sort of roll out and get damaged. Btdt

            All done.

Then you press the brake pedal hard a few times to get the shims well stuck to the pads. Hopefully no more squeal.

Thanks guys. I will pass on the compliments.

                            Now this is very annoying.
I noticed a small drip under the car. Sharp eyed followers will have noticed the blue tray left under the car to catch drips in post 590.
The drip is coming from the bottom of the bell housing which is the worst place to have a leak. It can be one of three fluids. Engine oil, gearbox oil or brake fluid.
The liquid was too thin to be gearbox oil.
So I collected a few drips in the tray and place one drop on some white paper. Next to it, I placed one drop of engine oil from the tip of the dip stick.

To the left of that I placed one drop of brake fluid. I left the paper overnight and in the morning it was clear that the fluid from the bell housing had left an identical stain to the brake fluid. This can only be from my new slave cylinder.
                            Removal confirmed this.

It's leaking at the end. This was brand new a couple of months ago and from a reliable motor factors. It's one of the new design Sachs slaves (now made from cast iron). I'm not impressed. Sachs quality used to be very good.

All outsourced to a Chinese factory no doubt but out of all the leaks it could of been this was probably the better of them Dave

                                Yes. Agree.
i replaced the rear main and gearbox seal so kinda was expecting slave. The only place left with original aluminium ones now is Tradition (exceptionally expensive) and Quattro corner (just expensive) so i bit the bullet and ordered one from Pete yesterday. What's annoying is that Autodoc were selling these off for £40 each last year and i didn't buy 10
