    1. The prop can come off as soon as it is unbolted although you will probably find it needs a little persuasion to do so. Be careful not to let it flex more than 25 degrees at the CV joints.

    2. You only need to undo the hub nut (no need to take the CV boot off). You will probably find you can't remove the drive shaft without removing some of the suspension. Also, I found the drive shafts were very well seized to the diff flange when I removed mine.

    3. No idea, sorry

couple of questions if anyone can help me out...

when I remove the prop shaft bolts and centre mount do I expect the prop shaft to drop or do I need to take the diff or gearbox back/forward before this happens?

How do I take the driveshafts off the back of the wheels? Do I need to take the CV boots off and get messy in the grease?

How much can I leave on the engine when i'm removing it and putting it into the other car? downpipe looks like it will have to come out but I assume I can leave the turbo on?

What the hell was I thinking and will I be still at this at xmas, given that I'm trying to be a family man for large parts of my weekend?

big thanks to Rob (Nuvo) for coming round and lending a hand on saturday. Hope i know what your labels (electrical connectors) refer to or you'll be the only one with any idea how to put it together again.
Popped down this evening and got an hour at it before I was called back home.
all prop shaft and driveshaft bolts loosened now.
the beast currently looks like this.....

haha. what did you buy mate?
I have to say with hand on heart that my missus (despite the odd gasket blowing) puts up with my crap a lot. she was even happy for me as I skipped out the door last night to take delivery of the 2nd broken S2. Or happy to see the back of me. one of the two.

haha. Did you ever test the elastic limit of a spring at school? You keep hanging weights on it and taking them off, add more, take them off etc.. until you add them and it goes past the elastic limit and won't go back? well I fear i'm doing something similar with the wife. I think the final weight might be a set of spangly 17 inch rims.

The Irwin set is the ones I have. Very useful although they're only 3/8" drive

yeah, i've whacked it until my arm went numb, battered the allen socket right into it and everything but no joy.

rob - link didn't work but yeah, saw that set at machine mart http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/pr...-expansion-set

It's easier for me to get in on sat morning instead of messing about with couriers, who will probably leave a card and make me go collect it from them sat morning anyway.

it's just another case of needing the right tool and knowledge. I now have all the knowledge the forum has to give and if I had time i'd be down battering a 12mm socket onto it just now but if i'm waiting to saturday I may as well use the spiral socket.

You can buy this very set from machinemart order code 040214679 and they'll be a little cheaper too. I meant to post this item in a previous reply instead of the ones for power tools.

Have you tried giving it a good whack straight on with the hammer yet? I'm not joking it usually works, if its an allen or torx head bolt it will also shrink the hole a little so you can get some action with the allen key again.

that's exactly what I need but I can't wait for royal mail to mess about. i'm still waiting on that freeze spray that was posted a week ago. I know a couple of places to try first thing saturday morning so hopefully i'll be sorted. it's a pain in the **** cos there's nothing anyone can do when they're striking.
