I tried the tightening trick but didn't work for me. cheers for the tip though Lou. keep 'em coming.

mobile welder could be worth a shot but I hope it doesn't come to that. I was trying to find JB Weld the other day and failed miserably. that stuff's amazing.

I need to get spline sockets on saturday morning so I'll get a set of spiral socket stud remover things and give them a bash. I was planning on nipping down to hammer a 12mm socket on tonight but instead i'm clearing space in garage number 2 cos the new shell is arriving tomorrow night!

And like a simpleton i'm dead excited. normally i'd reserve this level of excitement for a whole car that works. think i've taken a knock to the head.

This may sound stupid ,but try to tighten the thing and then undoing it,that has worked for me on several occa'sions. If you have stripped the head of the bolt it will hopefully be just oneway, anty clockwise. once you have cracked the joint it may be possible to start undoing it by tapping it round with a cold chisel. Best of luck

I was looking at the spiral sockets too. that's what Mike recommended. they must be handy. There are smaller sets that do 6, 8, 10 and 12mm. think the 12 might fit if I can pick up a set before saturday (when i'll just start battering everything within reach with a hammer)
    cheers
If you know anyone with a welder thats your best bet by far I would say.
Weld a nut on to it and it will be a piece of cake to get it off maybe pay a local mobile welder a few pints to do it..

A quick blast with the freeze spray and all 12 came off dead easy.

Tried to do the same on the cv going from prop to diff they were normal hex (M6) i think and managed to shift all but one which I managed to round Those spiral sockets are excellent, if anyone remembers my sump plug which i butchered, they were the only things which worked in the end

    Good luck

haha. alright lads. i'm leaving technical at the door and knocking a socket onto it then. Sal just agreed too.
really don't want the stud left in the diff. that'll be Plan Z.

oh yes - new shell is arriving wed eve. the madness will go up a notch then.
