This morning I went down to get a couple of bits done. One major bit I wanted out of the way while it's out in the open is the dash.
Getting it in isn't anywhere near as easy as getting it out

I haven't connected all the wiring yet. I just wanted the dash in place more or less so the car can sit tucked into the cramped garage.

I did find a couple of issues with the wiring/plugs etc. A lot of the relays behind the dash/clocks were hanging loose so I put them back into their bracket type thing as seen here. Can anyone tell me does this look about right for the 3B or is anything missing? I know the yellow block is hanging down in the picture but does anything fit onto it when it's secure in the bracket?

This is the yellow block with 2 wires already feeding into the back. Does anyone know if the other wire with yellow spade connector should be attached to the back of the yellow block too? And of so which connector? And again... what should be attached to the front side of the yellow block when it's in the bracket?

There are a couple of plugs hanging down quite far back. I know the brown, blue and black are the diagnostics plugs but I don't know about the couple of others hanging about here

So I repaired the wiring to the injector plugs, Hall Sensor, IM sensor, IM earths etc
the 2 Steves and Rob got the engine out of the donor car and we all got the subframe and gearbox disconnected. But it was getting dark as we tried to get the engine onto the gearbox in the 2nd car and we finally had to call a halt before something silly happened. The engine is now sitting on the floor in the garage waiting for another day to get it into the new car. This time we might go for a gearbox out, then attach to engine and put back in complete type thing. hmmm....

We did discover a cracked engine mount arm so i'm trying to find a replacement (drivers side). And the breather hose has seen better days so I need a replacement for that and the PCV, or whatever the hell it's called.

aside from this we got the old throttle cable out and replaced it with the decent one from the donor car, removed the whole accelerator pedal/arm from the new car (because the plastic pedal was broken) and replaced it with the decent one from the donor car. Also took apart the sections of exhaust that we need to put onto the new car. Swapped the P/S hoses over... No doubt a handful of other things that I can't quite remember just now.

right... Saturday was a funny old day. First I have to say a massive thanks to Stevie (dubbedup), Rob (Nuvo) and Steve (KinghtRiderS4) for coming up/down/over/etc to lend a hand. Steve (Kightrider one. I'll call him Steve and Dubbedup Stevie) even sat in a 2 hour traffic jam with his daughter on the way.
Of course 5 minute jobs turned into epics when things seized and refused to budge, other things were discovered broken and yet more things refused to join together.

    So anyway... some action shots...

    Stevie getting energetic

Bit of crane action. Bought to match the car of course.

2 steves getting stuck in. Rob legging it in the background

what's the best way to support the engine? I have a couple of big straps used to keep aircraft engines on the backs of lorries in transit. I don't know whether to warap these round and under or if I should be using a couple of winch points that can be hooked onto.

and what do I need to undo gearbox wise? does the gearstick etc come out with the gearbox?
    cheers

I strapped front to back on the mount point at the front and i looped around the last manifold runner then across the engine wrapping round the engine mount arms. Seemed to hold reasonably square Good luck!

Meet at my lockup(s) is still on for Sat 29th sept by the way. Let me know if you can join me. I can promise traditional Scottish weather and a range of oily spanners you can wave about while putting forward your opinion. And the missus will feed anybody that arrives. Unless you start on about French cars, in which case she'll have to kill you. I'm sure you understand.

But at least a car is getting done out of both parts rather than just broke and the shell's scrapped.

evening folks. No exciting photos just now, i'll upload a few tomorrow. Just an update. I've got pretty much all the wiring and pipes labelled and disconnected leaving the engine pretty free. Steering arms are on the new car and connected so I can at least steer it and move it a bit.

you'll be in good company. with enough men making a half arsed effort, together we may be able to generate the productivity of one determined man!! oh yes, I have a good feeling about this one.

Are you talking about 29th sept or this sunday on the things to do bit?
