Its infront of the battery tray and below the abs unit.

I'm not sure what the two pipes under the battery tray, i'd probably say depending how thick they are they could be from the following:

    air con
    power steering/rack

I will try see if I can see on mine tommorow any.

that sounds familiar actually. it would be somewhere under the battery tray but close to the fan then yes? i'll investigate. thanks for pointing that out.

I think i'll be asking a few of these questions, mostly about the wiring round the lights though.

the pump lives just behind the fan for the radiator if you look straight down you would see it looks like a slightly bigger version of the idle valve and connects in between the pipe work. If you switch on the ignition with the bonnet open you should hear a small buzzing noise from by the radiator. I'm trying to find a picture of it (vagparts might have one on there) and don't have etka on this machine atm.

oh-oh. cheers Peter. where does that live then? this is quite a fat plug that's not got a lot of cable to play with, coming off the same bit of loom that the radiator resistor is on. i'll get a pic tomorrow morning when i'm down at the car

Also I was confused my a mystery 3 pin plug hanging around above the radiator resistor but i'm thinking now that it must be for the condenser thing that I don't have. this would explain a few small differences between the 2 cars when i've been moving bits over.
3 pin plug - could that be for the aux pump that pumps water around if the engine is hot?

cheers. I'll just ignore it then. I was 99% sure it was but on the off chance... hey I don't want to be legendary for all the wrong reasons. bursting into flames on the maiden journey, something like that.

yes, there is all manner of aircon pipework under the battery try on a 3b.

still struggling to find time at the car - same theme of the whole project. I did get the clutch bled last weekend though. nice and easy to access the bleed nipple in there. aye right. so just have to do the 4 brakes and see if that all works

cheers John, that's excellent. being underneath certainly explains why no amount of staring at the top of the turbo was ringing any bells.

The DV or diverter valve or dump valve or recirc valve as it is variously known, on the 3B is plugged into the hose that comes from the bottom of the turbo to the intercooler. The little nipple that the vac hose goes onto actually points towards the floor so is hard to get to from above. If you've still got the bumper off you'll be ok though.

cheers mate. so just the wee nipple bit sitting proud up on top? I'm worried about my sanity if I've forgotten something so simple. Think Rob was helping me that day and took the hoses off. shame I lost the friggin labels off a lot of hoses etc while I had them stored. oops.

If you are talking about the vac line coming from the back of the inlet manifold running over the cam cover then that will be for the Recurculating dump valve

hmm. I can't see a recirc valve on any of the diagrams I have here. closest i have is a boost pressure limiting valve.
