Congratulations matey!

It's great feeling driving a car you've built yourself for the first time.

A few niggles are to be expected, it's been 10 months since I finally got mine back togther and there's still job's to do, I don't think there'll ever be nothing that could be improved.

The car looks phonominal Alex, congratulations on getting it out for a run! I have very similar niggly faults when I got mine out for the first time but im sure you'll have them sorted in no time!

Re the gear rattle, are you using solid or DM flywheel? My car ( and most solid FW cars I know ) has always had a 'chatter' in the rev range you quote.

Yeah I'm using a 3B flywheel (not lightened). Its hard to describe the noise, like two metal plates vibrating against each other gently.

Sounds normal to me, there's been a few threads about it but I've never seen a definitive answer as to what it is.

No gearbox speed sensor (B6/B7 use ABS sensor ring)

And what is the solution to make the speedo work?

Got a bit more done on the old banger today.

Pulled the old block out of its stinking sticky pickle and its done a really good job of dissolving the corrosion!

Was this just straight molasses?

Yes I reckon the "gear rattle" could well be the sound if the 6 speed coming through the solid flywheel, I actually changed gearboxes try and get rid if it on mine and it didn't change at all. I now kind of drive round it as much as possible, it's a disappointment after the smoothness of the 5 speed.

Hopefully get these little niggles sorted this week. Got a feeling I'm going to need to shell out for a new vac servo though

Come to think of it I did notice a slight rattle when I fitted the 01E to the coupe a few years back, but that box was royally ****ed so I just assumed it was due to that

Issam - yes just straight molasses & water, IIRC I used around 10 litres of molasses and then enough water to cover he block I guess another 80-90 litres
