Minor update. It seems like this project has slowed to a geological pace so I really need to get my áss into gear. F***ing Christmas occupied pretty much every day in December with work so I haven't got much done. It did bring some nice stuff though, even if i did have to secretly buy it for myself

Bought some 10cm Rainbow components for the front dash. They will be driven by my Genesis Profile 4 amp from the Becker headunit, along with a 10" sub in a boot install. Hoping for real nice sound quality from this combo.

Fitted the mid driver. It was a tight fit to get it into the dash, I'm glad I wasn't trying to do it with the dash in place. The magnet is a lot bigger than the OEM Nokias. Not sure yet where the tweeters will live, I'm thinking the round vent on the dash. Also need to find a home for the crossovers.

I was concerned about clearance underneath but there is plenty

Pretty much finished all the wiring now, just a few bits to do. There has been **** loads! ABY engine, fan & lighting harness installed, engine side AC harness made from scratch & I've made an almost plug & play harness for the climate control from scratch, only needed 4 connections at the fuse board, the rest is OEM as nature intended - blends in nicely with the other harnesses.

Here's the "rats nest". Many hours spent trying to tidy it up. This is best I could do

Climate box & control unit in place to test - all the main features work - fan and temperature controls. I've wired it into the K-line a the fuse board so hopefully I can connect via VAGcom although I've heard its hit & miss.

Decided now was a good time to install come footwell lights I've had for a while. They are from a Ford
Perfect fit though on the drivers side parcel shelf, I just need to cut a similar hole on the passenger side and wire this up to come on with the door opening etc

Hoping to make the last preparations to refit the interior next week, then off snowboarding for a week.
Once I'm back In February I plan to really crack on and try and get this thing finished

Love the Rainbows up front, these are what would upgrade my Kenwoods to if funds allowed....
        Good progress.

Will be interesting to see your solution to the passenger side footwell as I'm not really happy with mine but can't really see how to make it better
Keep up the good work mate!

Yeah I'm not 100% sure how much clearance there will be for the footwell lamp above the passenger cover with the AC heater / climate box so I'm going to run the wiring out to it and fit that one once the dash is back in.

Awsome work you have done there

Absolutely Love the very clever digital climate control instal. Been wishing of something like this for my B4 avant for years.

I am interested to know what options/your decisions you took for the dashboard speakers and how much improvement you have noticed?

Its a reall shame you could'nt get your engine installed ready in time fro ADI last year. The attention to detail is something to be proud of!! Lets hope we can see your car this years ADI,as you put it in your own words "if i dont blow it up".No please don't do that.Looking forward to seeing it in October!!

                Thanks
I decided not to rush the engine swap as I wanted to tie up all the loose ends and future proof everything I've done to handle 450-500hp reliably. Things will start coming together nicely soon.
I've not get an feedback on the speakers yet. I chose Rainbow for their sound quality, subtle look & OEM fitment

Still here. Funnily enough I just got some bits from R-tech yesterday to make a back-purging set-up.
I've been chipping away at the crappy little jobs recently - you know how it is, all very time consuming. Hopefully I'll have a worthwhile update in the next couple of weeks.

All that stereo equipment will go to waste once you've fitted the turbo engine and 3" exhaust, trust me, there will be no need for One Direction then

Its the 21st century, equal rights and all that.
Gone are the days when you had to carry their bags and yet you couldn't punch them in the face..... and they complained about inequality
