So there are two actually? I will source a set and put them on my type 85 to make it more rigid as it already is.

Hopefully not, my car had rust problems so it needed to be done. If I did end up having to strip the underside of a coupe, I think I would pay the money to have it dipped & e-coated.

Good info on the cabrio tunnel brace. Wouldn't work on a quattro as the tunnel is wider, but something similar would definitely help make the chassis more rigid on a quattro car. A lot of newer cars have tunnel braces. I'm planning to do something on mine some time to tie into the 3rd gearbox mount on the 0A3 box

Some bits arrived today - new tailgate struts. I've been without working struts for a few years now, it came to a head last week literally when it fell on my head and almost knocked me out
OE are silly money, but I picked these up for under ÂŁ40 delivered for the pair from SGS Engineering:

Then I spent a couple of hours at a mate's engineering shop making the left front driveshaft spacer. It serves two functions, first is...... to space the driveshaft out - duh! Second the scallops on the OD will trigger a hall sender which will hook up to the instrument cluster to provide the VSS.
First time I've programmed a CNC machine, I used a DXF file from my Solidworks model to provide the tool path. It was really good fun, saved me hours of manual work on the mill

            Solidworks model:

Heres the computer doing the hard work. It was cool to watch

            Finished item:

Fits like so: will come off again to be plated or painted, not sure which yet.

So now I need to fabricate a little bracket for the hall sensor to mount onto then that jobs done..... I'm trying to do a bit on it every day now to keep up some momentum.... the end is in sight!

What are the differences between them and the s2 6 speed box?

                    Lots!

All alloy casing (a few KG lighter, probably not as strong as a result)
Much nicer syncro system so much smoother gear change compared
T3 40:60 static bias centre diff (60% of static torque to the rear axle)
4:1 front/rear maximum torque bias ratio (S2 is only 3:1)
Slightly shorter gear ratios with the RS4 box
                    28mm longer than the 01E
                    Custom gearbox mounts required
                    Modified B5/B6/B7 linkage required
Tripoid type front output flanges (prop output flange is the same)
No gearbox speed sensor (B6/B7 use ABS sensor ring)

                    Think that's it

And I guess no where for pro con ten to mount to? Will need to get my box sorted at some point so wounded of its worth considering. Won't be for quite a while though

Nope, no provision for procon. It's been a lot of work but ultimately should be a really great upgrade.
Pembo was the first to do it on his rally car and helped point me in the right direction - (cheers matey )
I don't think anyone else has done it yet, certainly not on a road car AFAIK, so I have documented the way I did it so hopefully it helps others in future

                          Who needs Pro con!?
I was all too happy to take the cable out to install the 01E. Beefed up the intercooler core support though

Have you read about Hydrogen Embrittlement? Make sure you bake your parts after they are plated, especially high tensile strength bolts.
