@Bram
How are you getting on with VEMS?Comment
-
Still waiting for the package to arrive from Marc. I expect not to be able to start with VEMS in a couple of weeks as I still need to read myself into boost controllers and especially the TS solenoid. I need to figure out how much adaptations I need to make to VEMS in order to get the TS solenoid working the same way as the OE N75. O yes, and the engine bay is still not complete with components, like oil drain for the turbo I need to get as well as my throttle body that is still somewhere in UK postal service........Comment

I dont expect that you need to do much adaption. When we tried on my motronic using the TS solonoid and dual port setup it was fairly straight on.
Already have my VEMS lying in the garage, just need to get my *** in gear and do something about it.Comment

Slowly getting there.
Wagner stuff is fitted now. Really easy to put it on the car! Great parts Carsten
I placed Jamil crank sprocket on the crank pulley as well. Thanks Jamil
A new clear coolant can is in place, although not yet in the pic
Currently I am working on coolant/heating/vacuum and turbo hoses. All OE hoses will be replaced with silicone ones if they were not yet done already by me.
The 034MS HO coil kit is also going on, I just need to find a new top cover to close the rock cover and give it some sand blasting to match the clean Wagner IM.
In process are the re-bore of the throttle body from 67mm to 70mm and a turbo oil return line of 18mm instead of the 13mm 034MS oil drain that came with the Garret kit.
And still to arrive is the VEMS package from Marc Swanson as it is currently still in customsLast edited by Bram; 28 July 2009, 16:44.Comment

i had to wait for mine for nearly 6 weeks to clear customs, but hey! it arrived!
if you are reboring the TB, let me know of any changes that may need to be done to VEMS. Supposedly you may have to tweek the screw that adjusts the flap (or may not) in order to get the idle to rest nicely on the 1000rpm mark(or whichever you use) + give that number to TPS=0 value through TPS calibration.Comment

OK, that TPS setting is something I clearly have to look into then. THanks for the tipi had to wait for mine for nearly 6 weeks to clear customs, but hey! it arrived!

Bram, nice work there!
Have you tried closing the bonnet after fitting the SS X-Member? It seems strange that you had to pull it in. Oh, just for info, the tool you uses is a Ratchet Strap.
Very interested in this project, I am starting to think I may skip the 3071 now!Comment

initially just leave it as it is. There is a TPS calibration feature in megatune software that you need to do.If after doing that you get too high idle and you have tried various different ways to fix it,the TB screw might need tweeking. If you do tweak it,then just recalibrate the TPS and see what happens.
Oh an then let me know too! im fitting the 70mm TB next year! hahaComment

Yes, the bonnet closes perfectly. I only had to pull the two chassis ends 5mm together, so not too much of a problem. I can imagine that over time the chassis get's a bit sloppy and by all the forces of hard cornering, etc. it get's off-set a bit. Or it hit something in the past, but I am not aware of that.Comment

Today I fitted new engine mounts from 034MS, the Street Density version.
On the pictures you can see that the old ones have had their time. They sank about 8mm each, compared to new fresh ones. But more worrying is the fact that one engine mount broke.....
I have no idea when they were replaced last time, but for sure this was very much needed to do.Comment

Finally I can remove 2 items from my to-do list! The engine and tranny mounts from 034MS are on the car! pfffffffff. This must have been one of the most exhausting jobs I did on the car.
In my previous post I said that the old mounts might have been sinking 8 mm, but now I tried to mount the 034ms mounts I start to think they might be higher then OE specification.....
Since the 034MS engine mounts are so high I got in trouble with the Wagner SS x-member that holds the snub mount of the engine. The new engine mounts did put up the engine so much higher then before that I could not fit the SS x-member anymore. I tried to pull together the front to chassis ends again, like a few weeks ago with a stronger Ratchet Strap (thanks madplugger for giving it a name
), and it helped a bit to increase the height a bit of the x-member holes in the chassis, but was never enough to make it all fit.
In the end I had to place 5 washers on top of each engine mount (that is 10 each side, since 1 mount has 2 bolts) on the bolts that connect to the body of the car. This lowers the mount in respect to the body of the car and allows be to tighten all bolts and nuts.
Off course this all let to the problem that my bonnet would not close properly anymore as the whole front had been lifted a bit, so I had to adjust some things at the front again to put that lower.
I hope the engine vibration will not be too much, now that the snubmount is already pushing hard up on the x-member. At least the engine will not rise up again at WOT
Did someone else experience the same thing with the 034MS engine mounts?Comment
I popped it in boiling water this weekend, one swift blow with the hammer and it popped on. Thanks
