i can also vouch for the spec 3+ disc myself I have had it with the 3071R so far no problems(after about 30.000Kms) Still holding on strong.
I do have the dual mass flywheel as well, not an aluminium flywheel,(not sure if it makes any difference as far as the disc's life span or not).Im hoping it will hold on with a 500hp turbo setup as well,as according to 034 it is deemed good enough for 550hp crank.(whatever that means)Comment

Spirit VW are fitting my Tarox G88s and Ferodo DS2500s tomorrow
top marks to them for volunteering for the work, the other garages in the area said that they'd only do it if they supplied the parts, or that they weren't sure 'because they massage the discs when you're driving'. Not in 1996 they don't.

Good work! Finding a trusted mechanic / garage is a must, even for the most enthusiastic amateur spannerist (like me). Is that G88s and DS on the G60 OE brakes or Monoblocks? Hope you've got a new set of pads in the boot, my grooved discs ATE the DSs in 3 months
That was with some spirited track driving tho :mischeif:

Andy, grooved discs will do that. My predator pads lasted ONE ring trip!
Mike, and for anybody else in the Loughborough area, the only garage I trust with my car are West End Motors on Cumberland Road Trading Estate, Loughborough. They are fantastic. Top notch welding, top notch everything. They do tyre fitting and MOTs too.
Massage the discs??!? FFS! Modern cars yes, I doubt the S2 does, and even if it does, what difference does that make???Comment

Jesus H is it nice to have a car with back brakes instead of a metallic grater! Drives so much smoother! 10/10 to Spirit Volkswagen in Leamington (bought my Golf from there also) for their work - will be recommending them to you all for the OEM stuff as they definately have their heads screwed on!
The plan has however been altered - as the bodywork is in pretty good condition what I'm doing this year is just going to polish it until it gleams - that'll have to be it for the show season cosmetically. The 17" Avus will be going on this weekend (although I have yet to track down some spankers centre caps), and the front brakes will be matched to the rears with G88s and DS2500s in the coming months.
Also to come this next couple of months, the alarm/immobiliser/joke is coming off and a Tracker will be going on (Cat1 alarm/immob also) with total closure and RCL all from one fob, instead of the two I have currently just to open the car and start the engine.
The stereo is coming out (permanently), and the engine and chassis will have the remainder of the 12k thrown at them - including completely refurbished subframes, lower arms, coilovers, alloy subframe mounts and poly everywhere else, the differential and gearbox will be refurbished and the engine/turbo rebuilt with the turbo to be changed (I've decided!) for a 2871R. Aim is to get around 400bhp at the wheels, but we'll see how attainable that is on the budget given that the gearbox and differential will probably take the best part of £2k between them before mounting them!
Anyone seriously got any ideas of reputable places for this to occur - I'm fairly adept with a spanner but not to that level. Proper job so proper money involved and proper results only - I don't need to be jerked around because a) I'm not a nice guy to piss off and b) I've got another 40k which I'll happily lend to a solicitor to clean a quattro-based company equivalent out.
Thanking you all!Comment
