What are the downsides of meth? Reduced oil life and corrosion??

Can you run just water injection and not a water/meth mix?

Also, presumably this is not a DIY thing to fit? Has anyone fitted theirs or paid to have a system fitted?

Head porting sounds maybe more sensible.... Maybe betterr spool/efficiency lower down the range and more peak bhp, maybe another 30bhp clutching at a guess?

Water injection is very easy to fit. Mine has a .5 jet on the exit of the second intercooler, my boost controller controls it. Mine isn't mapped for it for fear of it packing up. I just have it for some top end protection above 1.1bar.

      Works a treat...

      Darren.

Yeah I have it fitted to mine also, using a 0.5 or 0.6 jet triggered on boost, but not mapped in at moment. Would consider changing it to a mapped version but need a high speed solenoid valve for it too, but its mainly for some top end protection too

          Prj,

Is the above comment correct that the little postage stamp of a stock intercooler on the side of a urS6 is sufficient until one reaches 480bhp, or have I miss understood your comment ?

          Thanks.

If you are very worried, just run denatured ethanol, will be just as effective as methanol.
Can you run just water injection and not a water/meth mix?
            Yes, definitely.
Also, presumably this is not a DIY thing to fit? Has anyone fitted theirs or paid to have a system fitted?
This can be very much DIY, if you are even remotely handy with spanners.

Don't know your map, so can't comment

            Darren.
I use the Aquamist HFS-3 system, which has an actual flow sensor inside the meth line.
So if anything packs up, that flow sensor sends a signal to the ECU and BEFORE the charge without meth hits the cylinders, the ECU switched boost, fuel and ignition maps to meth-free operation.
            So it is 100% safe.

            Also, I run dual 1.0mm

            Thanks.
Flow wise, yes. And the cooling does not matter if you run meth injection, since that is more efficient than if your entire car was made of intercooler.

Not a good website to get good information, as obviously they are trying to sell a product there.
They say that drawing heat out of the cooler with air is more efficient than using air...

This would be correct, assuming the water would be magically cold all the time.
                However, you have to:
                1. Draw the heat out with water.
                2. Then use AIR to cool the water.

Simple physics - it is lots more efficient to just use air to cool the cooler DIRECTLY.
That's where the entire thing falls completely flat on it's face.
If your engine is at the front, unless you are doing drag racing, forget it.

Would be good, you should be able to attach virtualy anything to the forum, and I think this information and line of talk needs it's own thread not in this gentlemans project thread

                            Head porting here i come....

Looked at buying stuff to log pressures etc at large expense but have decided to get head work done first.

Then I can look at methanol or different coolers if still not satisfied.

Now the head is coming off for some headwork, should I change my standard AAN Cams??

I want the best torque but also top end.

I have been told that ADU cams are the best for torque, but that this would mean swapping water pump and belts etc? Also, I would have to find some and they are no doubt rather expensive to source....

I didnt go for a 7A exhaust cam, should I try this? What is the benefit of using one?? Higher lift?

I presume this is only for top end gains?

I was looking at a 7A exhaust cam, read all the threads and still not sure, a dyno graph of before and after and a before and after point of view from those that have done it would be good..
