    Are you referring to oil deposits?

        Stripped the block tonight and had a look at the bearings;

        More crap in the pickup;

        Main Caps/shells;

        Big ends;

        Crank;

        T Cut?

        Bare block

        Anybody want any 7a parts?

        I will take apart the oil pump another evening and see what is inside it.

          Its still keeps raining on my days off and as my s2 works no more progress on the 80 yet

          Took apart my spare diff;

          Flanges off;

          Diff out;

          Empty casing;

          Whats going back in;

          When you swap the crown wheels over do you need to heat the crown wheel up to get it on the diff? (Cue a funny smelling oven ) Or just use longer bolts to pull it down?

          As far as removing the crown wheel I was thinking of undoing the bolts a couple of turns (or installing loner bolts and chapping out evenly, any other suggestions?

            I used a blunt punch to drive the crown wheels off, then i heated it back up to about 150deg in the oven to put if back on (once i'd cleaned it to avoid domestic troubles )

                Worked perfectly

                Alloy drift to get it off, degreased it at work and then 1/2 hour at 180 and it just slipped on and could be rotated round. The s2 output flange also works perfectly for driving in the big seal. A 7a thermostat works on the small one.

                Can't wait to get it fitted and try it now.

                    Swapped in the torsen rear diff....... and it hasn't rained since so a bit difficult to safely test at normal road speeds. It does seem to grip well out of low speed roundabouts/hairpins etc and doesnt loose all power to the inside rear wheel on tight uphill turns, got some corners in mind to test properly though :mischeif:

                    Wired up the engine in the 80 and it runs

                    Camera Phone Video

                    Just ran for about 30 seconds (I did fill it with oil first), clattery at first but started to quiten, 5 bar oil pressure

                    Now the engine runs the timing belt and water pump will get done, and as the Haynes manual says "reassembly is reverse of dis assembly"

                    Also insured for another year, insurance company is getting more reasonable, all mods declared is another ÂŁ70 (on top of ÂŁ9xx ) Rear half cage is another ÂŁ200 :mischeif: They will not insure the 80 though

                      You will like the Torsen, totally changes the way the car puts the power down. You can get on the gas harder and earlier without scrubbing wide.
                      I can't belive Audi had it on the shelf and never fitted it to the S & RS cars of the day

                        Stopping the front scrubbing wide is a perfect way of describing it.

                        I wonder about that, fit it to a luxury car and not to the sports cars?

                          Made a crank lock tool from 2" box

                          Worked nicely and cost next to nothing, should work on the 3b as well.
