    Yep, brutal

I forgot to update the thread.... yep it's for the ECU to know what the operating temp of the engine is, along with a load of other sensors

Engine is running nicely now, opened the ECU and checked the chip.. clearly has 285 written on it!

Still working on the clever dash electronics and tidying up the wiring loom.

The immediate issue now is the road speed sensor that used to go via the dash and then to the ECU to let the ECU know the car was rolling, not just sitting still revving. As I have my own dash the wiring is somewhat different, so I'm trying to work out if the VSS wire can go straight to the ECU or did the Dash do anything with the signal, I'm thinking not, but I'm not quite sure how I can check it's working even when I connect it up!!

Just bumping this, as the car is now running but I need to still work out the VSS bit.

The gearbox I'm using is a 5 speed from the original NF engine (An AMK I think) I am still using the same speed sensor that was on the left hand output flange cover. Although the speedo is gone, I've wired the pin direct from the speed Sensor to the relevant pin on the ECU. Should this work as expected ?

You need to get some tube between that filter
and the MAF , they way you have it now you will
have turbulent air going in to the MAF and it will
              not read correctly.

Thanks for the advice. I've only got about 6 inches (Fnar Fnar) before it will hit the body shell, do you reckon that would be enough ?

Been swearing at the car tonight

Separated the gearbox to do the clutch and the first Allen bolt rounded, all the others seem so tight that they are in danger of doing the same.

                      Is there a secret?

                      Ideas I've had:
                      • Put liquid metal and torx socket in the bolt, leave to set remove and replace the bolts.
Cut the pressure plate, use the bits left over to turn the bolts
Grind a slot and try to turn with a screwdriver/impact driver
Weld an Allen key into the bolt
Cut the bolt heads off, remove pressure plate and the studs.

Just looking for some hints as I may have to pull the engine out to fix this otherwise!

I've no idea how long this clutch has been on there but the release bearing is good and worn!

Cut the heads off they come out just fine after that.

I used irwin bolt grip on a rounded pressure plate allen key bolt a couple of weeks ago

                          Hammer on and undo.

                          Handy tool set to have.

I dont have good luck with torx in rounded allen keys, spline bits often work well.

Cut the head off as terrybullon says, then remove with mole grips once the pressure plate is off if they are still stiff.

Did the car work fine without VSS?

                              Thanks Andy and Terry.

Re cutting the bolts, is it an angle grinder in from the side job, or a drill from the top?

Yep going like a train . Just one issue remaining with a WOT misfire, but I won't be working on that until the clutch is changed
