      Nyuk.

Anybody have measurements on the thickness of the ABY/ADU dual mass flywheel (DMFW) as compared the more svelt AAN DMFW?

      • yeah the difference is the same as the thickness of the spacer

          • Getting a little spendy on Audi tradition can have its benefits. Some nice new heat-shields.

Even though I ordered a Sachs, I got an ATE. I didn't mind until I went to fit.
The top of the slave cylinder interferes with the gear linkage spider.
A little bit filing cured it though.

Fitted my 3D printed nylon gear linkage bushes.

After some heaving and hooing the engine is "in".

Subframe and bambridge bushes support the gearbox end.

            Fill the gearbox with oil

            This is what I used.

As my Dad used to say.."That much done!".
It's still sitting on the old engine mounts. Will change over to the new bambridge ones eventually.

            • Woot! A real milestone - well done mate! You must be getting pretty excited now
Interested to hear how you get on with those engine & gearbox mounts. I'll probably need to upgrade mine once I start going for more power, but I don't fancy anything too harsh. What are you doing for fuel lines? Is that the black tubes in the engine bay?

              • Indeed. Its a little "cart before the horse" as there is a few jobs that would be easier with the engine out-of the way, but for my mind its the right way to go.
They could be a bit harsh, so yea its possible I might regret it, but they are easy enough to change out.

Yea they are the fuel lines. I kinda dont know what I am doing right now. Hopefully I can mate them to what I have and it will be good enough.
I need to source some brass inserts to stop the line from crushing .. will look into it further down the road.

                • Cool. I'm sure the plastic will work nicely.
As you say the mounts are dead easy to swap if you fancy a change

Now go do some more work and take pics

                    • Great to read the new updates! All the hard work is done now, only the cosy things left

About por15 and your parts... Do you threat it with a form for precoating before using POR15? What did you do step by step?

                      • Thank you.

Yea, as with any paint its all in the prep.

                        1. Clean Part ( Blasting / Wirebrush etc)
                        2. POR-15® Metal Prep
This etches the metal and gives it a light zinc phosphate coating
                        3. Prepaint wipe the surface
                        4 Then begin POR-15 painting
At least 2 coats , 3 is better 1.5hrs between coats. When you brush it on, you will get micro air bubbles in the POR coat, thats one reason why you put on multiple coats to ensure full coverage.

                          Just personal opinion:
No good. Both flywheels are heavy enough. ADY pressure plate shares partnumber with V8 plate and it should be stronger than AAN one.
Besides, among the two bad solutions (flywheel weight) personally I would chose one with double dampering (clutch disc + flywheel): long live the gearbox.

                          • I just saw this in the flesh yesterday. Absolutely stunning workmanship. As I said to Eric, I don't know how he'll be able to bring himself to get it dirty by driving it.
