Big thanks to Ben over on classic audi for getting this out to me -

I can now start on doing the wiring.

Last week I started with this

And after 2 hours of painstakingly cutting out the chunk in the middle, leaving as much cable to play with as possible, and removing all the horrible sticky stuff, I was left with this -

Now Im just waiting for some large heat shrink to arrive (hopefully this morning) then I can get on with joining this lot back together

It will all come good in the end tho (I hope)

BTW - just shout if you need any help navigating your way around the Audi 80 fusebox to integrate that 1.8T loom. Most of it should be straightforward enough though.

Cheers paul, With the help of the diagrams on your site and from that elsawin cd I talked about in that other thread, i think I have managed to get my head around most of the wiring.

I have the dash and heater motor box thing out and have undone and pulled some of the loom through into the engine bay. The loom is wrapped in yellow loom tape. I plan on cutting the loom here so I can avoid the fuse box as much as possible. The engine loom that you see above has all the engine connectors at one end, and the ecu and car connections at the other. There are 4 plugs on the ECU end, and I have the opposite of these plugs with the rest of the loom. I intend to solder these plugs onto the cut loom, which will hopfully keep it fairly OEM and give me most of the connections I need.

One of the things I need to get my head around is the different fuel pump relay set up.

The FPRy is the very thing I was thinking about... Are you comfortable with the Audi 80 CEP and how all the fuel pump related pins are used ?

Sorry if I am trying to teach you to suck eggs here BTW - some people have the intuition and knowledge to work from the schematics & related info I have collected... some people need a little help... and some people should never be allowed to hold a pair of wire cutters I am confident you havent got this far by being in the latter category !

Dont forget that the CEP is the cleanest place to access things like 30, 15 and many other pins that are wired into the main vehicle loom, ignition switch etc.

I havent looked at the 1.8T loom in ages... does it include things like reverse switch, speed sensor and umpteen other auxiliary things for autocheck integration or are you keeping those as hangover from the old ACE loom somehow ?

Not really sure I understand this.

No worries paul, I really appreciate the help. This is a huge steep learning curve for me. I never really understood the wiring schematics till a couple of weeks ago when I read your site. Im good mechanicly and have a basic understanding of electronics, if im honest im winging this a little. I am a bit dyslexic so it takes me ages to get my head around something and I end up going over things a few times different ways before I get it right in my head. Oh and pictures really really help!

I believe the fuel pump relay on the 80 is controlled from the ignition switch, i.e. you switch the switch and its on.

But the one on the A4 is controlled by the ecu, but obveously needs some input from the ignition switch.

What is CEP? ..... Central Electronics P....???

                Thanks again paul

CEP - Central Electric Panel... fancy wording for fusebox... I only use it as thats what the Audi factory docs refer to... You need to understand how the pins on that are used in the real world. I can dig out a pinout for it but on its own is not so useful.

This doc is pretty useful starting place ---> http://www.s2central.net/S2_Schemati...tic_Primer.pdf

I looked at AEB schematics in my Bentley for B5 A4/S4 and you can DEFINITELY re-use the Audi 80 fusebox for this in a nice, correct, integrated way. The AEB fuel pump relay is same as S2/RS2... its just a matter of knowing which wires go where on the CEP.

If you can tell me what model year your AEB loom came from I can give you more concise details that line up with (alleged) wire colours etc...

I also see the AEB engine loom does bring things like speed sensor, oil, water and such to the cluster... i can reverse engineer a wire mapping for that by cross checking with ACE schematics and where things like RPM etc need to be.

Its quite hard to explain without a picture so -

there are is one main engine loom grommet in the bulkhead, and one other main one. To me it looks like the other one is for charging and other functions such as ABS etc.

I figure if I cut the loom at the bulkhead as in the above pic it will give me almost all the things I need to join the new loom in.

On the 1.8t loom at the ecu end are 2 large ECU plugs and these -

I have the other sides of these connectors too and thats what im going to solder onto the car loom. I am not 100% sure but I think the sensors for the gearbox are incorperated into the engine loom on both cars, I am not so sure now tho.

What are your thoughts on this? and indeed anyone else's thoughts and opinions are always welcome

                      RIght... now we getting somewhere

The bit labelled 'presumably to the fusebox' is broadly correct, except that it also uses those other connectors in the 2nd photo as the points where it integrates with the car loom for rpm, oil, speed etc etc.

There is a label on your AEB loom there - what date is on it... then I can tell you what functions exist on each of those coloured blocks... then you can splice to correct place on the car... or as I would do - terminate them in generic multi-pin plugs that you can use to connect up with the car in a nice elegant, removable way.

That JPT-3 is your F96 plug of course... you just need to attach that to barometric sensor from AEB motor.

Thats what I figured. Using your wiring diagrams I have managed to figure out what most of these wires do.

It is dated 97. It is from a 97 A4. I have diagrams for this and again managed to figure out what most bits do and to connect it into the car loom most of it is joined colour for colour. It is still a bit confusing however and I would really appreciate your input and help on this if you have the time

This is exactly my plan, I have the male side to those connectors in my second pic and will splice them into the ACE loom, this will mean I can unplug the whole engine loom from the car should I need to.
