Worth spending money on as a keeper. The black chrome on the outside, and black "chrome" on the door handles inside and on the clocks is very nice, imo.

The urS6 has a lot of nice small features on the car that are not on my S2s.

Get it chipped, (Prj), if it hasn't been already.

I have an auto saloon. The auto is great, but is a limiting factor if one wants more bhp. On balance, I'd prefer a manual, but it is a lot of work and time, so I'm enjoying what I've got.

Bought a new key from the Dealer and they matched it to the car and the alarm and the central locking work with the new key and the old key. It has two buttons on it. It was expensive, but I thought it was worth it, as I wanted a second key anyway.

Nice to have a new key to use and handle, even if the car is 1996.

The key is bigger than an S2 one with the light, but smalller than than a newer flip keys.

More information than you need, but hope it helps.

Cheers, will be investigating the remote stuff, need one replacement key if nothing else and thought if I could add remote then it would save buying a normal key and then doing it!

Don't think it has been modified, from the performance (Which is still good) and the carpet is still uncut by the ECU, which I understand is the give away if ECU work has taken place?

Had to be manual for me, hence the punt on a car in Aberdeen, (Im in Bournemouth!!!!!!!)

      Minor update,

I have rebuilt the Climate Control LCD Panel,
Got a replacement LCD from the states and resoldered all the connections, took a couple of goes to get it right, but it is now clear as a bell no missing/fading bits and all the buttons work all of the time which is a result.

Still having a problem getting the dash lights sorted, fixed some of them with replacement bulbs, but cant get the external temperature display sorted,

Re soldered a new bulb in and it lights when testing, but now can see the temp in daylight, but it is not illuminated at night, is there something else that lights it up at night, when lights are on?

Still got good plans for this one, ace car, performance is ace even in standard form it surprises me what it can do - and a fair few others I dare say, not been outwitted on a challenge yet!

Thrash it and it goes like a ***** can't wait to mod it!!!

This might sound rude but do you have a yellow harness plug plugged into the external temp display yellow plug?

For example, the UrS6 cluster in the upper part of this photo has no plug but the UrS4 cluster below it does. (BTW, when the external temp display is working correctly, it actually is dimmed when you turn the headlights on).

No worries, it is plugged in, I tested it by plugging it in before refitting the dash pod, so maybe i bust the bulb in the refitting process, the bulb is a 1.2 W bulb though,

Need to take it all out and check again, but presumably the bulb is the only thing that lights it up?

What I understand/stood is the bulb is a 12 V 60 mA "grain of wheat" bulb, like the ones below. I just replaced two in the PRND21 display of my 98 C4 A6q avant autobox instrument cluster. I believe the external temp display has the same bulb.

I used a red led for my temp display. There is a guide on here how to do it and what's required. Try a search.

First mod I carried out on my urs4 was a 3" downpipe/ system de cat. Made a huge difference in performance.

That looks very much like the bulb I used, very small and fiddly!

Might have a go if I cant get the bulb sorted!

Re Mods: Can I decat a petrol?

I was thinking along the lines of hybrid turbo, modified cylinder head and remap to get somewhere near 350bhp maybe intercooler, which would probably give performance similar to the RS4 (bi turbo) I had.

I am looking to maintain drivability as the car would be a road car only and want it to pull from as low as possible, but still want a nice turbo surge at around 3k rpm.

I understand the gearbox and drivetrain is all good for this power, but not sure on the block?

Happy to hear any suggestions, I want the car to sound and look standard from the outside so not really interested in modifying the exhaust save for maybe the cat as above if that can be done without ******ing up the MOT etc...

Dont know much about these engines tuning wise other than that they can be got up to silly power, but I dont want to go crazy, I want a nice comfy discrete car (which is what Audi is all about?) that is happy pootling about and then can go when needed!!!

Great looking Avant. Keep the roof bars and maybe get some S6+ wheels, if you were thinking about suspention I wouldn't lower it, my saloon was a horrid hard drive until I put it back to std.

Rs2 setup is what your looking at for that power. Block should also be ok at that power level. I would do the rods though. Better look at a clutch also.

Cat will be required for mot and is also a good way to keep noise down.

Decat on this car does not noticeably affect the exhaust note.

350hp on this thing is really slow.
If you want full boost at 3000 and have it feel like a RS4, you need to swap a V8 in there with two turbos.

However, if you learn to shift, you can just bolt on a couple things here and there, and have a quite poky car with about 420 hp. Yeah, not much will happen at 3k.

It will still be kinda slow though compared to a properly set up RS4.
It weighs 200kg more than the RS4 to start with.

I had mine up to 400+, then took all the bits off it and sold it, and bought an RS4.

                          Thanks for the ideas,

Can't really remember what the RS4 was like now, but I remember me liking the S4 better at the time (B5), but I defo want to keep the A6 because I love the styling and comfort big space factor so wont be going back to a B5 which I always thought were too small!

Have secured some plus wheels which were the original wheels for this car as the spare is 17" 255/40/17

Will take the keeping suspension standard ride height wise onboard, prefer the OEM look and fr road use it corners well enough ish!!

I can put up with the body roll as I find with a quattro you can be pretty brutal and generally get away with it unless you are being really silly!

Westover road? Me... Never!!!!! Although I did nearly come a cropper near Staples by the railway station, blowing a cack box into the weeds, forgot that Audi standard brakes are usually not very good!!!

Chip it to be going along with.

If you're on this forum, with that car, making the comments you've made, you're now snared and so you'd better start saving, and / or stop spending on other things, like clothes and food.

True, I have no qualms about spending more than the car is worth on improving it, much rather spend the dosh on a car I like and am enthusastic about than spending 15k on a Tdi golf!
