Regarding remote central locking, looking under the seat there is a box in the foam next to the battery, I whitish colour box,

Is this the box for remote central locking?

      Attached is picture.

          Duffelcoat,

Just fyi, the clear plastic breather is missing from the battery location photo, it goes from the battery's breather outlet and into the empty rubber grommet in the photo.

          Kind regards.

Agree. You need a battery with the vent and hose

              Hi

Thanks, I did discover the lack of breather tube, but now have some tube to replace and have taped over the +ve terminal to protect the top of the battery,

Are we agreed that this car doesnt have remote cental locking?

              Cheers

If your car is model year 97. and pump has two vacuum lines, it can be coded to have remote central locking. I'm just not sure if all cars had remote antenna integrated into wiring loom.

If your car has the small black plastic rectangle on the outside of your B pillar, you would think the car was intended to work with a remote control key fob ?

Having said that mine, (1996 reg #), doesn't have the black plastic, but does have central locking and alarm operation via the key fob.

No real help, and I know every newer car has a remote control unit built into it's key, but persevere as it is a cool feature to have in the key of an 'old' car, which you'll appreciate every time you come to the car, or leave the car.

The problem I have is that I dont know if the car has remote central locking as it stands, I know it can probably be added, but as I only have one key and its a non remote type I want to buy another key and if possible a remote key, if not a standard key.

Trouble is a few people including my Audi mechanic cant say for sure if it has remote central locking (as standard) and I am just missing the key or if it never had remote central locking.

Is there something physical I can find or test to see if the feature is on the car? And therefore I can just buy a remote key and add it?

                    Cheers

pull the foam box out and post the number off the pump.it will more than likely be 8L0862257a or 257g,or possibly 257(with no letter at end).ifs its an A then it was specced without remote locking

cars with the rectangle on the b pillar were fitted with the earlier pump similar to an s2,never seen that fitted to any late s6s.

                          Ar ha!

Part number in the foam box is 8L0 862 257 A

So mystery solved no RCL which I dont mind and will probably just get another normal key.

                          Thanks very much

I did NOT know that (all our UrS cars in NAmerica came with remote locking).

8L0862257A was dropped in favour of 8L0862257 in 1996 and 8L0862257 was dropped in favour of 8L0862257G in 1998. 8L0862257G works with radio frequency remotes.
