So I put 18s on the S4 and didn't see much of a difference in ride quality if I'm honest, so I am keeping 18s and will get 225/45 summers on them. It just looks way too good for me to sell them. Now running my A100 on 16s while I get the 18s re-sprayed in gunmetal grey.

Having read through you thread in one sitting, and being in my middle 50's, and not wanting to rain on your parade or be rude or condescending, it is very obvious you're 20 and new to cars and expense. If you want a decent paint job it won't exactly be cheap.
TBH if i were you i'd sell it on and then buy this http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70813
All of the jumping around from one idea to the next, you're like a new born lamb who hasn't been taught the ways of the world by their parents. i.e. the people on here who've been there done that and seen this situation a number of times before.
While I could make suggestions on how to approach the urS4, with the benefit of my experience, :roll eyes: , I really think you're missing a trick not giving very series consideration to the the urS6 in the above link, NCTS, it will work out much less expensive in the medium to long run.
The urS4's cost of new wheels and tyres, respray, rust, powder coating etc., will easily be more than the cost of buying and insuring the urS6. It is a ready made classic just needing a wash and polish, and a chip. Standard suspension and wheels are perfect for the car. Less maintenance downtime and more time spent driving and polishing.
Just my thoughts on the situation. Please take it as it is given, as hopefully helpful advice from someone whose wasted loads of money on cars over the years, and been on here everyday since 2005. No offence intended or implied.
Best wishes.

Yes, I am 20, but not new to cars nor expense. Have done fair amount of work on my A100 over the last couple of years, and learned a lot.Having read through you thread in one sitting, and being in my middle 50's, and not wanting to rain on your parade or be rude or condescending, it is very obvious you're 20 and new to cars and expense.

That's why they are called "ideas", I am just thinking of what I 'could' do, as long as I haven't started the work yet, I don't see what's wrong in that. I don't like C4 S6's. They look weird IMHO with everything being rounded down, and the colour isn't in my taste anyways.
List of parts that have been changed is massive, backed up by receipts, so UrS4 would need little work put into it to be ready for the road, most of the stuff I will do is because I want it, and it's not there, not because it's needed. Breaks work fine, but it's my choice to powder coat the calipers etc. . Car came with new tyres on original alloys, but it's my choice to refurbish my 18s and buy new tyres. There are speakers in the car, and stereo, but it's my choice to upgrade the lot. So as you can see, doesn't matter what I buy, I will do all this.
Re-spray is at the bottom of my priority list, was just wondering how much would something like that cost.
All the rust is surface rust that will be there on any car that age, rusty body panels I will just swap from my A100, so won't cost a penny, so sorting the rust out is more about time not money.
How much of all that I have planned I will do.. I don't know, we'll just have to wait and see I guess.
I appreciate your opinion though.

Cool, was just happier that I've said it and you've read it, as like most of us, I'm sure you don't have the luxury of being able to spend your way through any mistakes made.
Obviously you know your own abilities, tastes, cars and circumstances better than anyone else, but tbh I wish there had been internet when I was younger, it would have saved me an awful lot of naivety, time, money, effort and heartache.
Envious now of twenty year olds who are able to drive S cars, back in my day etc. etc. …………………….………
Also should check myself, given to pontificating, and looking to impose my tastes on others, while I think I'm being helpful.

Best wishes with the two cars - with this forum your progress should be good and 'efficient'.

As A100 was my first car, I wasted so much time and money wanting to do everything in one go. So for urS4 want to plan everything before starting, so don't have to do things twice and spend money because of my stupidity.'93 Audi 100 Avant - R.I.P

Can I make a suggestion that you might consider to buy you some time, and that is to 'paint' all of the rusty / potential rusty areas underneath the car and inside the engine bay with used engine oil or copper grease, so that it does not get musch worse, but also you don't have to spend limited funds on sandblasting and powder coating all of the suspension components, as if there are taken apart you could be up for bushes, shocks, nuts and bilts and the rest, because it might be the case of
- 'I'm in there now, I might as well do this also because it will be duplication of effort and / or cost if I don't' - syndrome.
Initially do the things as they are needed, with the odd bit of, because I want to,
, rather than I have to.

I agree with a lot of what macspring has said especially about being young, jumping all over the place with ideas, wasting money and making rash decisions, like you did when you defiantly wanted my boleros took my address offered one of 2 days you could pick them up and then only a few hours later said you had changed your mind saying you couldn't afford them when only a few hours earlier you were excited! I am not worried as have sold them but you should think before you jump.
I too wish there was something like this forum was around when I was your age.48 years young now. The URS 6 car is a much better car than the URS4. And much better looking. Has better brakes better gearbox and other things.the only thing that I would like from a URS4 is the the 4WD diff lock as is very useful.
Your 2.6 looks a much better car and in better condition too.
Good luck with your car and any future plans you have.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do have to treat the rust in engine bay and under the car somehow, as living in London without a space to work it hard to remove the engine and take suspension apart.

Will do that, but when I can get a nice place to work
I do agree on 'jumping from idea to idea' part, always been like that, my dad always keeps me on the ground (he's too soon 50, so had his fair bit of experience). If I get idea in my head, I want it now without thinking it through, then I talk to my dad about my 'bright idea' and then I calm downI agree with a lot of what macspring has said especially about being young, jumping all over the place with ideas, wasting money and making rash decisions, like you did when you defiantly wanted my boleros took my address offered one of 2 days you could pick them up and then only a few hours later said you had changed your mind saying you couldn't afford them when only a few hours earlier you were excited! I would've kept my A100, but it's high mileage and non-UK car...and it's not a Quattro. I have problems coming up non-stop, and the fuel it requires to move is just way too much.
If I might ask, you said breaks and gearbox are better, how? I thought both cars are more or less the same, just visually different?'93 Audi 100 Avant - R.I.P

See now, that's why it's better to do some research. Mac and myself bought the car mags when these were new and remember the journalists mentioning these big improvements in gearbox brakes etc. the front brakes on the urs4 are inferior to the Hp2 brakes on the urs6.Urs6 front brakes are of conventional design and I believe are cheaper to maintain (happy to be corrected) and definitely gave much better stoping power. The gearbox on the urs4 is week and they develope whines and other problems that others on hear know more than I do not being an out an out expert on the differences as some are on here.
Getting spares for your urs4 will be harder than S6.The S6 is hard enough and the S6 that Mac mentioned for sale would be a good move. I appreciate you can't afford it but food for thought! How about if I put it this way for you. Audi only produced the original A6 C4 chassis to try to bridge some of the gap with the competition ie bmw 5 series because audis C4 replacement the C5 was years away and wouldn't be ready until 1997 .So the S6 has several improvements over the 100 S4.

UrS4 was unplanned purchase, so didn't have time for research. Might have been different if I planned buying 2.2T Avant.See now, that's why it's better to do some research. I have HP2 breaks at the front, someone must've known that OE breaks were *****, so converted them to HP2's. Gearbox is refurbished too.... reason being....whining 1st gear
But luckily for me someone done that for me.
I just don't like the shape of the C4 A6, it's too round if it makes sense. It looks less aggressive from front and weird from the back, I've always preferred C4 100 shape.
I guess you can always find flaws in every car, but at the end of the day, we all buy cars we like, not cars that will require less work...at least I do!

I just dropped off my 18s at CAS Coatings to be refurbished in gunmetal grey. The guy I talked to was very nice and understanding, asked about kerbing and he said they will strip the wheels, sand it all back and do all the best they can do get it out. This will cost me £130 for the set of 4 (£1.50+VAT per inch), which I think is very cheap, compared to quotes of £240 I was getting in other places. They should be done by Friday, so I will take some photos and put them up on here
