That is probably the easiest method to replicate if you have access to suitably heavy metal and the wherewithal to make something yourself !

This pic shows it pretty well with the 3256 tool... http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/troubl...tcranktool.jpg

Actually - this page is very useful to read thru entirely for the AAN - its from well respected Audi tech in USA - http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/troubl...g/S4timing.htm

Note the difference with the 2084 tool which counter holds on the snub mount itself... but the jaws in the round end of the 2084 tool need extended to work on the AAN/ABY/ADU pulley.

I've only ever used the modified 2084, but it looks to me like the 3256 bolts into a hole that is used by the snub mount.

The DV isn't mounted to anything - it is essentially held in place by the MAF pipe... unless there is some other bracket down there on the AAN that I've never seen before.

Could you not just make the holding tool really long and rest it on the floor or an axle stand. You also need a really big torque wrench to tighten the bolt. The pulley has probably slipped because the "garage" did the job with a rattle gun (air gun).

Do this with it resting on the floor, I did this with an s2 recently and works a treat.

What garage messed this up in the first place?
