1992 AUDI S2 Project - Keep it British with a twist.
The bell housing needs cutting to clearance the rear covers on the 07k motor but otherwise yes assuming the B8 A4 and B8 RS5 mimic each other in the bell housing format.

What is the code? Most of the TDI boxes I found had a 550Nm torque rating but the gear ratio's were not favorable compared to the old 01E TDI boxes.
That being said , Happy Canada day to all the Canadians out there!
Today is another shopping day , so since I missed Eurocracy what is another week without the car. Time to move the 01E conversion ahead.
These are the parts needed for the conversion and since 01E 6-Speed's were never available in a B chassis in North America , this is the gist of what is required.
- B2 4000S Drive shaft
- B2 4000S Rear differential diff cups (100mm) to convert 01E inner flanges from 108mm to 100mm
- 6-speed 01E TDI gearbox (could be any B3-B5 01E for that matter)
- B3 RS2 01E Transmission Mount brackets (8A0399113E & 8A0399114E)
- B5 S4 Shifter linkage or flip the 01A unit around.
- 40mm spacer or use that NOS V6 subframe.
This is what I currently have access too:
- B2 4000S Drive shaft
- B2 4000S Rear differential diff cups (100mm) to convert 01E inner flanges from 108mm to 100mm
- C4 6-speed 01E TDI gearbox (had one from a 2.5 TDI A6 for ages)
- 40mm spacer or use that NOS V6 subframe.
- B3 RS2 01E Transmission Mount brackets (8A0399113E & 8A0399114E)
Found this set: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Getriebehalte...item3f2275478a
which is a tad bit insane so so I will get a set from Hank (Iroz) since he has them in stock.
Any suggestions on shifter linkages and short shifters?
Thanks
Issam
S2 01A linkage will not work it is totally different. B5 or B6 S4 is the best bet, its a better design - needs shortening and the shape altering a touch to clear the tunnel - but they are really cheap compared to S2/RS2 linkages. Some details in my project thread about adapating the B6 linkage to work
BTW, your 3B driveshaft should be a direct fit to the 01E so you shouldn't need the rear diff flanges.

You are a bad influence...
I went 18's after seeing this picture.
3b engined s2s had 108mm inners even on 01A box. Only the cq20v and lesser cars had 100mm inners.
Yes I am aware of that but this S2 had a CQ gearbox (code confirmed and cup diameter confirmed) & driveshafts put in it which we later found out the hard way. Does not matter though as I access to both 108mm and 100mm flanges .

Just read your thread one more time. You said you used an 0A3 gearbox. I have access to brand new 02X GVE's (B7 A4) for $1200 USD , however , they don't have the same mounting holes as what you are showing:
The B6/B7 use a centre cradle mount for the gearbox which is suspended by a massive brace behind the subframe. I imagine the B8 cars are similar:
I've got one of these, planning to redeisgn my lower chassis brace bar to incorporate this cradle as a 3rd gearbox mount. Again IMHO it is a better design to the previous style of using 1 mount either side as it helps stop the driveline shunt we all know & love
In an impulse buy yesterday , I purchased a complete 0A3 set up from a B7 S4 but decided it would go on the back burner due to the fabricated parts that are needed to make it work and the time frame I have (will take at least 2 weeks to get the CV axles , VSS sensor , centre drive shaft, etc all figured out) so ordered the following:
- Iroz Motorsport 01E in small frame gearbox mounts
- S2 shifter assembly for 01E 6 speed
Hopefully it all arrives tomorrow so I can get the show on the road Saturday.
