Actually you don't need much rewiring on typ85 fusebox. If you have earlier one without necessary fuel pump pin - you just need to change it to audi100 one (everything else matches). If it's ok, then put KE-Jetronic fuel pump instead of K-Jetronic (you need one with fuse) and wire plug from ECU to it. Relay just needs to get ground signal from ECU. Also it's hard to get proper +12v with ignition for ECU (constant supply is trivial - just single wire from fusebox or battery). I have modified one of the plugs, which I think originally goes to big K-Jetronic idle stabilisation relay (black fusebox plug?), and tap some thick wire there by using wire tapper, which is available in electronic shop (used for trailer lights).

For tachometer signal - there's connector hidden under center vents (zebra wire, don't remember color). I have wired connector to there. However I have digidash, with arrows dash, you need to work something with tachometer (never did that, however average electronic guy can figure out what is wrong).

For temperature gauge - I've just wired wire back from motronic (mfts) to orginal sensor plug, which is now under fan/firewall cover.

That's basically it. Proper power supply, temperature gauge, tachometer, diagnostic plug, and potentially economizer signal to the dash. Not so much I would say...

    Sau
P.S. I need to collect all this I write every time to some normalized form . Now I think is about 10th time I'm writing everything from a scratch.

Superb!... cheers for this. I just pulled the KV out of the CQ yesterday and this should make life a lot easier fitting the AAN

I might even make the last two hillclimbs at this rate

PDF document version is 9mb so cant upload as an attachment but can email if anybody wants a copy. Paul does it look ok to you? I may need to amend certain bits and put which engine bay connectors signal sources come from.

Might have a look at a type 85 fusebox one now.

Okay, Paul's PDF refreshed my memories a bit.

For fuel pump control - you need to connect motronic fuel pump signal (pin 3 on AAN ECU) into B plug (black) pin S on fusebox. I don't remember reason why not all fusebox'ses are suitable, maybe they all are, it's just me.

Still don't remember where I've got +12 with ignition (it was so long ago). Note - in case somebody has no fusebox schematics - I'm attaching it. This picture was extremely handy when I was relocating fusebox. With it in the hand - all that spaghetti mess starts to make sense

Brill - where did you get that ?

It is not included in any B3/B4 diagrams that I know of - and I have five binders worth.

Here is the best resource of Typ85 schematics I know...

                              http://www.isham-research.co.uk/quat...p85/index.html

Another thing I haven't mentioned yet is that whilst the central electric panel (CEP) that carries the main fuses and relays seems to be common from as far back as the mighty UR quattro - there is something about the fusebox you need to remember. The CEP houses 22 fuses (including the big fat diesel one).

Up until the arrival of ABY engine - there was only enough room for another 8 (eight) fuses by way of the extra positions in the CEP housing - this had part number 893 941 803A on the 3B engined S2 - the number is only visible from underneath. This is so old - it is stamped as made in West Germany - how curious. This gives us fuses 23-30.

The later part 893 941 803 has accomodation for two more fuses so we get 23-32... This might be worth thinking about as the ABY/AAN/ADU install uses more fuses than all the other 5-cyl engines.

With something like a dremel you could modify the old 803A type so as to remove two redundant bits of plastic to make way for two more fuse holders - but the moulding doesn't have the right runners to hold them properly - you'd need to bodge them somehow.

I have this in front of me - should really take some pics.
