This scanner looks just like the Mac Tool that I have got .It will read more modern cars (not all of them ) but not S2 I think .you will need to buy some that is dedicated for older VAG cars .I have got one for £20from ebay and it work a treat.

Hey guys! heres an update! Its positive but still no cigarre! :/
So I fitted the ECU (repaired) and bosch alternator and the battery back to the car.
Power!! yey! and no blowing fuses! yey!! the engine turns over!! yey!!
Though she does not start! :/ ohh....

Things I have noticed, when the battery is connected i can hear a pump turning and the sound comes from the cooling pipes on top of the radiator ---- Is this normal??

Also when I connect the diagnostic computer it simply wont connect! :/ --- ideas?

Also a new discovery, that there is water and dampness in the drivers footwell, only when you lift the first layer of carpet up you can feel it if you run your hands inside. :/ could this be the cause to my electrical issues?
Where is it coming from?? ---- Any ideas or experience?

Arghh !! ive phoned my break down and they can deliver the car to a specialist in my area of 20 mile radius, does anyone know anyone good near me? im in hertfordshire (welwyn garden city)
Or I will have to send this off to a friend specialist in Norfolk (quite far).

This is dragging on so long and so many things to sort out :/

The broken bit will be fine, no chance of it getting inside, there is the field windings in the way!

Hey thank you for the advice guys!! I am going to accept their refund, of 50euros, I dont think aside from cooling there should be an issue hopefully with it. It should have warranty though?

Have a close look at the metal where the missing bit used to be. The refurb process will take a nasty horrible dirty alternator body and likely degrease then vapour blast. The vapour blasting leaves the as new finish and a slight smoothness to the surface. If that smoothness appears across the jagged edges where the missing metal once joined, the bit was missing before it was refurbed and won't be inside. If it is a fresh looking break then it could be inside and would likely rattle.

I don't think I'd run an alternator with a bit rattling around inside it but if it's just missing, it's not really a big deal other than the implications for quality control.

If thats The quality outside what's been done to it inside. Return it

I certainly won't accept or fit that considering the money it cost you. I'd return it.

Has the bolt actually sheared or just missing?? How many bolts in total hold the alternator together, 3?

You probably paid good money for this??…….I'd be tempted to return it.

Hey guys! a small update, I have recieved the bosch alternator from Germany but 2 things are up with it =

1 of them I think is ok (bolt has sheered off)

The other I am concerned that something could fall inside it. in picture shown (grille section has broken off).

Its a refurbished item from Berlin

    Is this ok???
