Paul - a lot of old flukes have the conductance measurement on them - It is not something I had ever noticed or used until I needed it for the coilpack measurements.

Does anyone know if the coil packs for the Porsche 996 will work in the aby?
I read a post where someone had fitted BMW coils so I thought these may be worth a go.

got any other part numbers for them?
Ive take the coils out of the car again to take alook at the cables going to the coil packs the insulation on them is well baked and cracked in places. One of the coils has the insulation broken just as it enters the coil. There is a rectangular plastic cover over where the cables go in.
What im trying to find out is what is underneath this cover, and if i take it off will it be ok without it? since the plastic is breaking off that too from where it has been baked so much. I would get some pictures but cant find digi cam

You can make 1.8T ones fit. Not too hard and you only need to shave a bit off the one for number 2 cylinder to get it to clear the oil filler cap. Can't use the standard coilpack cover then...you wouldn't need it anyway as the 1.8T coils need to be bolted to the rocker cover instead. They are dead cheap and feature built in Power Output Stages too.
I would do this if it were my car and I was looking for new coils.1995 S2 Avant with some upgrades

A badge on the front would work, then ABYers would know what was about to overtake them

Id rather not have to replace all of them if i can help it because it will also mean having to fit studs into the camcover to screw the coil packs to and also which leads would be used so they still fit onto the spark plugs?
What im still trying to find out though is if i break off that little plastic cover and re wire the coils will it matter that the cover isnt there?

110k miles on the 1.8T and no coil problems. Well, only that a professional didn't plug one in properly. They all got renewed because they’re so cheap, and it was hardly worth finding out which one was causing the trouble.SSComment

Grant Parker uses the older type 1.8T coils like the ones on Becky's A4. These cause no problems until very high mileagesigpic
