You asked the questions, you were given a helpful hand and a direction by John, yet you didn't read the link and came back and asked a question which proved you didn't read it...

Do the ur owner a favour and admit you don't know what you are doing. This is how the poor things get fecked up...

Get it wrong and you mess up a good car for someone.

Do your homework, read up on each variant and learn the differences..... You are not going to learn a thing asking about an ur here. Totally different to an S2.

I refuse to get involved in the arguing. I deal with Pillocks in my day job so don't need it out of work.
I spent a couple of hours on her today after doing a few other car jobs.
In short some Herbert has botched a great many things and mice have had a go at some wiring in the engine bay.
I set up the static timing ( the dizzy wasn't bolted tight and was rotating on its own!). It still would not start.
So I checked for fuel and each injector was supplying fuel. Then I did a compression check, all good.
Next I tested for spark.. Nowt on cylinder 1, or any others for that matter.
I checked and found the coil gave a good healthy spark. However the LT lead is screwed, each HT is scrap and it had the wrong dizzy cap. I replaced the HT leads and dizzy cap and she tried to fire with a fat spark on cylinder 1,4 and 5.
The spark in 2 and 3 was all over the shop. However I then discovered the brand new plugs someone has fitted are for a Subaru Impreza Turbo??!!
I also found the crank sensor wasn't bolted to the box and the closed throttle switch needs adjusting. Oh nd two big vacuum leaks. In short she needs a lot of love.
I'll order the correct plugs a LT lead and grab some vac piping tomorrow.

And yet you're are wasting your time still and haven't read or learned a thing.
          Is the engine airtight?
Have you actually done a stumble test?
Does it have the correct plugs?

Have you checked the static fuel pressures..... So many basics you have not looked at, even with all the information presented to you.

Rather than calling names and posting what a hero you are.... Go and read how to actually work on a WR

Without the crank sensor bolted on it had no chance of starting. If the ecu doesn't see the sensor it will stop telling the coil to spark. Probably why the plugs/leads aren't sparking properly ( though obviously fitting the correct ones will help).

The mice have made a right mess of the HT and LT leads. Tbh it's a neglected example. I'm sure it will get there. Once I can it to run on its own I'll check the finer points.

Hi guys I'm still battling away with this one. I had her running but not idling but discovered that 4 of the 5 injectors had a terrible spray pattern. However she's back to no spark at the plugs again. Strangely I have a really good spark from the LT lead. The cap and rotor arm are new as are the leads and plugs. I have worked through this guide step by step and everything checks out.

I'm at a loss I keep coming back to the distributor but hall sender works correctly.
                  Any ideas? Regards Steven

If you have a spark at the centre lead but not at the plugs then there's a short inside the dizzy cap or rotor is going to ground.

Thinking about it I have 2 caps and neither made a difference I'll try a new rotor.

Alex I appreciate the sentiment but please don't start it off again. I was really reluctant to post another thread on here as a result. I just need to figure out what's wrong with this UR. It's really bugging me..
